I wouldn't say the saxophone, as I know that there are others here who play and other than playing for pleasure I have no formal qualifications.
However, I am a grade 8 clarinetist who has played in a couple of serious orchestras in my time and know the instrument inside out.
I'm a seasoned, degree level construction project engineer as well.

Sitting outside Surrey cafés and supping tea for the sole purpose of gawping at fit Surrey housewives with well presented sweater meat. Which is exactly what I'm doing right now.

Oh and restoring old water mills.

I wouldn't say I'm an expert on anything. If I embark on something though I do like to get really good at it. If I can't master something I lose interest quite quickly.

We all have our own specific areas of interest and expertise in life, and given the wide breadth of subjects discussed on NSC (particularly over the summer) its likely that all that expertise will be useful to someone on here at some point.

So, what subject or subjects do you reckon you're qualified as NSC's oracle for?

Railing against people who go to unethical places like Seaworld in Florida mostly. (Oh and also uptight people with no sense of humour whatsoever)

I fear NSC has probably too much expertise in this particular area :)

Come now, Jem, is there such a thing as too much here? If we all club together, we could persuade Gentle Despite to make a half-time pitch appearance maybe, or get Claire to write an angsty column in the programme? I didn't actually list ALL my musical obsessions - just one or two. Could you get Stephen Drennan to contribute to this thread?? ???

Please tell more about your gold prospecting expertise. It sounds very interesting.

It's a hobby of mine. I've panned for Gold in Scotland, England, Wales and France.

I've been doing it for a number of years now.

I have gold from about 8 or 9 rivers in England (Devon) and there are many more in that area that have small deposits of gold in them.

I've not been out for a while (life and work gets in the way) but our summer holiday this year happens to be taking us to a part of France that has gold, so I'll hopefully come back with a few grammes of the stuff!

I've not updated it for a while, but I do have a gold propsecting blog - here http://devon-gold.blog.co.uk/

Was there a massive divergence at that time from the methods introduced by the Romans a 1,000 years earlier? Or is that snot true?

I understand that it was considerably more widespread after John.

Ha - I'd have lost a considerable sum of money betting that Ghostbusters was a UK #1.

Tragically beaten to the top spot by I Just Called To Say I Love You.
