Totally agree. Zamora could come back play every game, score 40 goals and get back in the England squad. I'm not claiming to know for sure either way, but for me the risk v the amount of our budget he would eat up is not worth it. Upson and Bridge were both younger and more importantly defenders, the game is played in front of you it's easier. Vicente was the most gifted player who ever played for the club IMO but could you call his spell a success? Vicente is an example of what I fear would happen with Bobby the odd brilliant performance interspaced with long periods out.

I would take him on a low wage is a squad player, I just don't think he should be our No.9 with COG filling in when he's injured...

I dont think anyone is suggesting we should be pinning our hopes on Bobby if he were to come back, i would seriusly hope we would be looking at another cracking forward too, that would compliment say Zamora and Baldock.
I woould be trying to ship COG and Colunga out, and be going into the season with Zamora, Baldock and another New Striker, after that if needed we could hit the loan market.

He was a great player for us and a great person to have at the club, do we really want those fond memories tainted if it doesn't work out?

Football is a job and players want to be paid for results, we need to shape more into contracts and remuneration based on performance (and league place at the end of the season)and have a little less on up front guaranteed and sentiment.

Having said all of that, I'd probably shed a tear as he walked out!

To be fair, if you want to look at the value he'd add to the club you can't just look at season ticket sales. It's also the shirt printing and extra shirt sales, plus the money spent on food and drink by the extra fans. However, you also have to consider the amount of STs sold if we made a marquee signing like a £2m winger or two £1m defenders. It shows ambition and it wouldn't go unnoticed, so I don't think Zamora returning would make sense in a financial setting. However, I'd love to see him walk out onto the pitch even if it is only for one season.

What he can bring is one of the best English centre forwards at playing that lone striker/target man role. Either in a front two with Baldock playing off him, or as a lone striker holding the ball up long enough to bring the midfield into play. I have seen him perform this latter function admirably at premier league level. His first touch is sublime yet due to his goal scoring record he is severely under-rated amongst football fans. Real football men (Hodgson, Redknapp) know his worth and what he can bring to a team. There is no question in my mind that at Championship level he will be better than Murray and Ulloa at performing that role.

Last time Murray played in the Championship he scored 8 goals in 18 games. The time before it was 36 in 79. And he's 31.
Ulloa scored 23 goals in 50 matches and is 28.
