If your spinner is Shane Warne then maybe... but Moeen Ali, really??

He was just saying how unlikely it was that Ali would get a wicket, coming on to bowl when the two batsmen were so well set...

"Moeen Ali, really??" - he's the one who just got the break through! So yes really. Should have had a short go 10 overs ago to see what the pitch is doing and whether the batsmen fancy it.

Warne said it was tough for spinners to come on once all other options have been exhausted - that's all he was saying.

Surely with 2 new batsmen you bring back your best bowler Anderson??

He's flogged him to death already. Jimmy has already bowled 11 overs. Cook is clueless he really is. That whole first 33 overs was Cook just praying for some Jimmy magic. In the end he had no choice to bring Ali on and he delivered.

Ten minutes to tea. Get Jimmy on for a couple of overs. A wicket now will have the Kiwis in a flap.

2 and a half hours of TMS for me today and I missed all wickets except Woods first wicket only to be no balled. I turned off the radio at 3pm and got 2 wickets. I will not listen to anymore today out of sense of duty. Plus it's nearly going to the pub time.....

Key session ahead... match still well balanced... either team could make a serious move in these 35 overs.

I'll agree with you it's a key session, in fact it's probably a key first 10 overs. In terms of balanced, very much in NZ's favour right now,

cant find the exact figure but Brian Statham played test cricket from 1951 to 1965 and Freddie Truman 1952 to 1965. They must have played many together as they are listed as opening bowler partnership.

35, according to CricInfo.

10 overs since tea, bowled by Ali & Wood, 42-0

NZ 215-2 (52 overs) Williamson 40* Taylor 20*

Time for Jimmy.

This match is rapidly disappearing from England. Even adding 2 wickets to this score still looks healthy for them. Can see them only needing to bat once at this rate.

Maybe Cook is right.

Just try **** all. Just keep bowling to a standard field and hope for the best. Don't bother experimenting, trying the short ball, trying some spin. All that is probably a waste of time compared to just keep the same stuff going.

He has used Root, Wood, Ali, Anderson and Stokes since tea... and now Broad is on for a final blast.

It is hardly Cook's fault that he hasn't got someone to bowl left arm over at 95mph.

New Zealand 303-2 (77 overs), trailing by just 86 on first innings, at the close of day 2.

England need a serious breakthrough with the new ball in the morning, or are staring down the barrel of a tough 2nd innings rearguard action.
