Out of interest, on what are you basing the assertion that we have the strongest economy and where are your links to prove it. The government bang on about us having the fastest growing economy but that isn't the same thing and isn't that just because our economy shrunk more than other similar economies!
Fast growing economy and all we do is make cuts mmmmm....Its all a big smokescreen surely?
Can't build enough houses or sort out the nhs amongst many other things.
Most immigrants by a country mile are unskilled earning and low salaries will continue until immigration is capped as there is no job competition in which brings higher salaries.

We seriously need to stop this hideous amount coming in as it's just ludicrous. The first joy ones who don't care are the wealthier one's or the tree hugging green types....Maybe these types can have some move into their houses if they love them so so much.

Also we need to crack down on the non EU immigrants and especially the Somalies who it seems are raking our benefit systems big time.

Jonathan Portes, the director of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research, said: “This confirms once again that the increase in immigration to the UK of the past decade, both from Europe and outside, has benefited UK citizens. Ministers and politicians from all sides ought to look at the evidence before seeking to restrict free movement of workers.”
Lol....Wages have dropped substantially for unskilled workers and many other industries like the building trade....it may benefit the government, but certainly not the citizens.
Let's not forget we're stuck in a spider web because it's the low earners that will suffer only and this is what many can't grasp and why immigration of this magnitude is bad for the not so fortunate.

That's a lot of accusations. Have you got any links to back them up?

I refer to my post above yours. 26% of our doctors are foreign nationals. 11% of the NHS are immigrants. Not all immigrants come in on zero hours contracts.
As for appointments, I can ring up or call in at my local surgery at 8.30 and get a same day appointment or a telephone appointment every single day. I've never had a problem. If you do, then exercise your right to change surgeries.

to another city or town, like one such as Brighton, almost unaffected by immigration? That's brilliant, didnt know you could do that.

Is it wrong or racist or to want roughly the same number of people who leave the country to be replaced by the same number on this over populated island that we live on.

Is nobody concerned that hundreds of thousands of British people are ****ing off away from their homeland because they no longer see a future here ? If 3 million brits leave and are replaced by 2.9 million Somalians, polish and Bengalis, is that ok then? What does someone in sussex care about the issues facing our longstanding white working class communities and way of life? Absolutely ****ing zero is how much, yet you all love pontificating from a distance with no experience and even less chance of being affected by the aforementioned inmmigration.

Your kidding me, it reads exactly the same, just tell me how many refugees you think we should accept, then your feelings on the numbers for immigration, factor in those of both groups lost to become illegals and everyone can discuss it.

You seem unable to offer your own personal view on any figure that might be seen as TOO MANY, then of course you become just like me and others that are already sceptical.

So give me a figure, is another 2 million too much, 4m, 7m what ??

I'm merely pointing out the real figure on refugees, your posts seems to indicate that the figure you think are being let in is a lot higher than the actual number.

How many refugees have we let in from Syria? Thousands or hundreds?

This seems to be an issue that both the left and the right are united over.

There simply is not enough space on this island, or particularly enough homes, to sustain such a rapid increase in population.

The EU needs to seriously look at its freedom of movement policies - France and Germany have similar problems.

I think the reason that our governments won't sincerely review it, is purely because it IS good for the economy... but that's a fundamental problem with an economic system that relies on growth and at the same time poor people competing with one another.
That is spot on. We are simply too greedy.

This of course is merely a duplictious game Cameron is playing. let's work this through:

1: Tories say to improve NHS, GP's open 7 days a week.
2: Not enough GP's around and net intake in medical schools is lower than predicted number of retirements.
3: GP surgeries cannot cope with step 1
4: Tories claim NHS is struggling and requires private firms to step in and save the NHS
5: NHS is privatized.

You've not changed doctors within a district before? It is possible, as I have done it, not because of getting an appointment, but because the doctor was useless and I ended up in hospital.

No one has yet explained to me who is going to do all these jobs if we don't have serious amounts of immigration. In and around Bristol it is getting virtually impossible to recruit. Unemployment is around 3% (probably lower in the city of Bristol itself), which basically means we're at full employment. I'm all for giving locals a chance, but if pretty much everyone who wants a job already has one, how can the economy grow without imported labour. And funnily enough there are loads of young Spanish, Portuguese, Poles, etc who are very ready to travel to the (south) of the UK, but it seems very few folk from the North East or even Wales (where unemployment is much higher) who seem to want to move. It's time for Norman Tebbit!

And by the way, at the same time, the Government is trying to limit the number of foreign students - who (according to a recent study) contributed over £2bn to the economy last year.

Iv'e read with interest this thread. It will come as no surprise that i agree with the UKIP policy of controlled immigration of about 30,000.
It has been stated and debated about the shortage of doctors etc in the NHS, well surely with the amount of immigration under Labour and now, it would have been sensible (points system) to make sure the immigration policies included the skills we needed.
Another post/s heralding the benefits of immigration to our workforce, well i know in my trade that money/contributions are being used abroad to train operatives, surely this practice could/should be used to train the residents in this country.
Jobs being advertised abroad, some of these jobs have not been advertised over here first.
I believe (as has been stated) that some European countries employ their own first.
Controlled immigration is fine, uncontrolled at the current rate especially including those that are not coming for the right reasons, is not helpful.
I suppose i can only speak for my trade, but i work alongside many foreigners, mainly Eastern Europeans, and after virtually 15 years of the big jobs i work on where between 30% and 50% are non British, i have got a pretty good idea. I am not going to attack their work ethic, and most are friendly, and some have a similar sense of humour, but there has been the downsides. Most but not all work all the hours and save there money for property at home, of course they pay their taxes, but they spend very little in the British economy. Many work here for a year, go home getting all their tax back, and are allowed to collect our dole for three months in their own country.
Whilst here the Child Benefit is sent home, and can also be collected in the three months sabbatical.
In the years that Labour opened the doors and actually admitted they encouraged mass immigration for votes, the rates for skilled tradesmen and others dropped and then stayed the same from 2004 - 2010.
So this 318,000 is not good, but thankfully Labour are not at the helm, i dread to think of the figures if they were in power, and having worked on Labour's PFI projects re NHS hospitals and Schools they really did not put money in did they.
