Given that we now have the highest percentage of LGBT MPs of any democracy in the world, I'm not sure that being a friend of Dorothy is a hindrance to a political ambition in this country anymore. and are you saying that snide and puerile insinuations about his sexuality from a comedy right-wing polemicist are comparable with enemies within his own party finishing his career completely?

i like the summary. and im sure i read there has already been an issue with source of payment for his parents home? offshore or tax avoidance scheme? mind you, Miliband seemed to get away with his tax avoiding, so maybe it needs to be more serious than that.

The sad fact is that there is no credible candidate at present and until they find a charasmatic popular leader again, they have no chance.

This. However, they won't find anyone less suited to being a Prime Minister than Ed so at least that is a positive.

Bad news for the Labour party. You can almost see the next election beginning to slip away too. Yvette Cooper, Burnham both tainted by recent Labour failures, Mary Creagh an unknown but 7 years on Islington Borough Council doesn't bode well. As for Liz Kendall she's married to the excellent Greg Davies and whatever her merits having the Prime Minister of the UK being shagged nightly by Mr Gilbert of the Inbetweeners makes her a non-starter.

If I was David Miliband I'd be concerned that if I didn't go in now then in 5 years time I'd be pushing 55, out of the game for a decade and up against a now older and wiser Chuka Umunna and Dan Jarvis.

Why are Cooper and Burnham tainted but not David M (who as author of the 2001 and 2005 manifestos) was even more closely connected with the Blair regime?

It's also impossible for him to stand: a Labour MP would have to die or resign within the next few days for him to be able to get on the ballot. He'd have to give up his job, come back here and, probably, get beaten soundly. If he couldn't win a ballot when the cards were stacked in his favour, he's hardly like to win when he's an outsider.

I agree that this election is a good one to lose though. Jarvis and Ummuna are biding their time. Pity for Mary Creagh, she's been very impressive when I've seen her on Question Time
