Sorry didnt make myself clear it was the aftermath of the Wilson government that made life difficult because of what he spent and his policies which then got us into serious financial trouble.

Without re visiting the 1970 election, I recall full employment, rising living standards, working class involvement in the media and arts with huge advances in education and the NHS.

People living longer, thousands of new people entering the country, machinery taking the place of manual labour etc

More elderly population require support, infrastructure needing updating, surely there is a better option than a life on benefits.

I have a feeling the bookies are wrong in thinking he's an outsider.

The Tories would be very concerned about him, especially the popularity of his background.

His political experience is against him though.

I think Yvette Cooper is the most able politician. True she's married to Ed Balls and that won't help her but at least he's been given his cards by the electorate so that may ease the way for her and reduce the liklihood of any friction at the breakfast table. It may well be a stigma too far for her though which is a pity.
