I saw him YEARS ago when he first started out. It was brilliant. The Guardian reading Camden audience weren't quite sure whether to laugh or not - then suddenly realised it was a quite a brilliant parody of Little England whilst at the same time challenging their own xenophobia.

Unfortunately he appears now to appeal (and cashed in) with people who actually agree with the character. I met a bloke who was amazed such an un PC comedian was allowed on TV and loved him.

I suspect his involvement in the campaign was a bit of a reaction to above. I found it highly patronising. If he felt so strongly about UKIP stand as a independent out of character. I've lost all respect for him.

I follow Murray on Twitter. Reminds me of Stockdale and his total inability to take criticism.

I take umbrage to that. I'm fed up with defending a private education and being written off as 'posh private school boy'. Some of us are functioning and rounded human beings.

I also went to private school, in North London, apart from my last term (we moved from London to Brighton) I finished my schooling in Whitehawk.

I thought it was very funny, Murray got the comedy ending he would have wanted but I'm sure he would have hoped for more than 300- odd votes.

a big fan of al murray but that was not the way to mock a political party. he should save it for the stage.

the people who voted for him were never gonna vote for the other parties anyway.

he made no secret that his problems were with ukip. and that would have swayed some weak minded voters
Yes, his parody act is amusing in the right context, his mocking of the democratic process, his pseudo intellectual aire of superiority as he stood up there, was tedious and embarrassing, he should take his 300 votes and pisss off.

I felt embarrassed for him. It was a shambolic publicity stunt that made a mockery of our electoral system.

Disagree, you're all toffs. You guys/gals are so far from the real world. You haven't got a clue.

You are right we are all hideous toffs without any handle on reality. I will see what you have come back with when I return from my fox hunt.
