Well, two unprovoked and senseless murders in the UK would get you a lengthy jail sentance though probably not a whole life term (unless he pleaded insanity) whats to say when he got released after his time was spent he ending up killing more people without any reason what so ever?

Jailing him after the act is pointless. Prevention is better than cure so maybe it's better to just lock everyone up to be on the safe side eh?

It will be interesting to hear from the parents on this matter. I don't support the death penalty btw.

The families’ British lawyer, Kieran Mitchell, from Slater and Gordon, said: “After a long and complicated trial they are relieved that justice has been done.”

The death penalty is mandatory for murder in Malaysia.

Would it not be better to prevent him from ever doing anything like that again after already doing it?

Surely it's much much better to prevent him ever doing it in the first place?

I don't know how fair and reliable the justice system is in Borneo, but if the conviction is sound and he really did kill those two young men, then I've no problem with it.

You might have a different opinion if your wife or daughter was raped and slaughtered.

Whilst this reply was not aimed at me I'm pretty confident I wouldn't. I hope it's never tested though.

Maybe, but I don't think I would.

But I have not been faced with that.

Tragically, I have a personal link to this case as my housemates girlfriend (who is also a good friend of mine) is cousins with Aidan, the student from Kent. The crime is clearly absolutely horrendous, but even so there are just so many problems with the death penalty that I'd still be very anti it being re-applied here in the UK, and for it's end elsewhere too.

Not sure I would. Painlessly (at least supposed to be) executed, or a lifetime of suffering in prison. Do you think Roy Whiting, Ian Huntley, Mark Bridger et al are all having it easy spending the rest of their lives behind bars? I'd want them to suffer till their dying day, keeping them alive as long as possible. Death is no justice.

I think I probably would. Which is why the justice system can't be based on the (completely understandable) desires for revenge from aggrieved families.

It's a no from me and I doubt very much you would really think that in the moments before you're being led to the gallows.

Well I'd be concerned that the actual killer is still likely to be on the loose and as I say a tad disappointed to wrongly be executed but I suspect it's difficult for the system to be entirely fool proof.
