I personally don't get the resistance to having the words displayed.
To hear OUR song delivered week in week out at a volume that would leave a lump in my throat then I think I can deal with being named 'tinpot' by a few of our internet uberfans.

In 2011 I produced a video showing some classic Brighton goals of years gone by to Craig Armstrong's 'Escape'. Oddly, several months later the club did their own version that now plays before every home game at the Amex. Same music.. same clips.. many of which are in the same order..

So I guess they like some of my ideas, just not the GOSBTS one,

We've had this discussion before. Everybody wants to change something. Some don't like the 'out of date' music and some don't like the 'out of date' words. I have an element of sympathy on that score: 'Gay' has obviously changed meaning, and I bet very few of us 'plough and sow and reap and mow' for a living - and some of us aren't even 'useful'. And some who sing it aren't even men!

Personally I think the words (except for the chorus) are all pretty poor, but you've just got to take the rough with the smooth. It IS out of date, but we'll never agree on a re-write so lets just sing it 'as is' and be proud of Sussex and the Royal Sussex Regiment. And also let's be grateful that our club anthem is not some bit of 1960s dross by the Dave Clarke Five.

To be fair, not all of the people singing at the City of Cardiff Stadium are from Harlech, nor are their "Barbed steeds proudly prancing", and I have never seen their "Helmets in the sunbeams glancing glitter through the trees" either.

Oh, and it's 150 miles from Harlech to Cardiff, at least the Amex is in Sussex.

At least that confirms which version of the words they sing in Cardiff. There are two quite different English language versions. Which probably justifies putting the words on display. An Irish speaking nun taught me the "barbed steeds" version at primary school.

The main issue last night was that even if Cardiff fans were singing the words they were piping it in so loud across the PA you couldn't hear them.

Change that line to something like "Now open your hearts and play" and more will join in for the whole song.

I don't think it will be a stumbling block myself, anyone with half a brain cell knows that the word has changed meaning, for me it's a case of heritage and I belt it out as loud as I can every game, home or away.

If anyone feels insecure about that line then they need a shake and a wake up. It's words to a song, and if fans of others clubs want to mock it then it will only make me sing it louder and prouder. Who gives a **** if others fans find it funny? It's our song, it's unique to us. Let them mock, it should only work to unite us even more.

Because of the intimidating volume that it was played at (impressive!), playing Sussex By The Sea at the same volume might brainwash more to sing AND, more importantly, brainwash everyone into SINGING AT THE RIGHT SPEED !
