now they're fixed, and a lot nicer to look at, as they too have predicted lots of snow

I personally think things will probably be too warm down here for much of the time - diurnal range or 3 or 4C down to 1C might be about right - maybe snow on the downs at times and to lower levels maybe. There just isn't a lot of really cold air around to draw into the mix. Further north could get a lot of snow though.

Don't say that - you do know that the weather will automatically do whatever you least want. so as long as lots of people want snow, we won't get any. BUT, as soon as you say that no snow is good news - the weather Gods will hear you and turn it all to snow.

Well, away from coasts will help - altitude will also. It depends on just how marginal it is. I'd imagine the temp of the overall airmass will vary hour to hour at times, and in a marginal setup the snow line will wander around - based upon all variables. The further North (within reason) the better.

I'm sure there will be times it's snowing there, but it may only be when conditions are perfect. If some model output comes to fruition I'd say anywhere south of the Midlands will see rain for much of the time, as we're talking about low pressure sliding in from the West against the colder air.

Deep into next week may see colder air from the East and snow from the North Sea, which would be better for us.

I'm with you, I've got a flight on the 23rd too so it had BETTER snow LOADS.

Incidentally I'm flying to Canada and the current temperature in the town near where I'm staying is -11C, I think I'll be getting my snow fix there.

The fact is although it will get slightly colder it is far from the " bitterly cold " as described on the BBC today. The weekend and next week wil see daytime max's of around 5C and nighttime mins of around 0-1 C. There may be the occasional sleet shower from time to time. As said there is NO cold weather over the whole of Europe so even if winds change to the magically NE or E there is no cold weather to feed in anyway. So in short temperatures will fall back to around where they should be for the time of year. There is no snow event to come

I am a cold lover and absolutely love snow, but although it looks like it is going to get colder, there is little cold air to our east and this will be the main draw after the brief Northerly, things can change but its a colder outlook but nothing to get excited about yet !!!

For the average punter (read: not a weather nerd), it will be bitterly cold. They won't be bothered about what the actual temperature is, it will feel bloody cold this weekend.

I've just looked at the Met Office forecast for where I live, and the maximum 'feels like' temperature is 1 dec C between now and Monday night, on one occasion. The rest of the time it will feel like 0 or -1 deg C.
That is bitterly cold and more appropriate than saying it will be 5 deg C if it doesn't feel anything like it.

looking back on this thread though, everytime there's been snow and cold weather, right before it happens he says there is absolutely no chance, and he gets proved wrong

I think I have been owned before I know but I just cannot see it this time. The weather in Europe and the East is relatively mild all through next week with Russia, average daytime max of - 9C at 0 C a week tomorrow, it needs to be much, much colder across Europe as the air will warm crossing east to west and significantly also going over the English Channel. Whether I am a miserable old fart is open to discussion
