Sorry 10, I can be a bit too concise at times.

Yes, I'm registered. No problems logging in. And able to post. Pretty much fine.

I'm planning to write a long and whingey letter to the council(s) and I hope I won't be the only one.

Even when there are no longer any loose stones (after a few years) the drag on these roads is appalling compared to how they used to be. If only we had roads like France.
Write to your County Councillor - they are elected to represent your views and it will have more impact than just writing to an officer.

Do you think My wife is trying to tell Me something ??? She sent this article to Me the other day.

She is probably trying to point out that 3 bikes costing £850, £1000 and £2000 is a very modest outlay! If he really was a "MAMIL" then his best bike should cost all those put together, and there should be less "training" and certainly no keeping a debilitating illness like MS at bay through regular exercise!!!

Eye spy fishing tackle.

Anyway.

My mate popped round early on his new Be One (Planet X) Dirty Disco cyclocross bike.
He's the fella that can crash on a turbo trainer.

My first words were 'wow that's beefy'.
It looked good, matt black, (he'd removed most of the sticker decals already), hydraulic brakes, seriously arse kicking Conti tyres, 11 tooth to dinner plate rear mech, he had changed the chainset from cyclocross to regular road compact.
He said although it felt really really solid, there was no major drop off with his ride, for this time of year, because he wasn't giving a second thought to corners or wet leaves.
Finally he was also complimentary on his first ride with SRAM.

 I not saying a word, I might want a new bike sometime next year.

Add this:

So then, a bloke on being given a diagnosis of a debilitating disease decides to make the most of his remaining years of mobility by embracing a physical activity which he loves. What does his wife do? Belittle him, in public. Then play the victim card.

You may not want to follow that up with:

I hope her tits fall off.

Belittles him in public in The Daily Mail too, just to rub salt into the wounds.

Re: My overshoes enquiry.

They got their first run out on the soaking wet and very windy commute in today. Ok, it's only just over a 10 minute ride, but the roads were running like a river and it was still lashing down. So, I get into work, take off the Endura's, and................. not a sausage! Not a single drop of wet to be seen. Water tight to the MAX! :)

Thanks PM, excellent recommendation there  Be interesting to see how they fair on longer rides, but as I got them primarily for the commute, it's well and truly job done!

I also thought I'd take advantage of a big tailwind on a particular little uphill Strava segment I've had my eye on. Felt like I flew up there and was confident of big results, only to discover I somehow managed to match exactly my times from yesterday. And yes, I was sad enough to double check I didn't upload the same file again by mistake  Oh well, happy enough that I didn't let the weather beat me today at least.

Glad you like them, 1066, I swear by them. Mine are a little worn, I may be tempted to treat myself to a new pair after Christmas!

Thanks again PM, I like them so far. I'm going to start using them as winter warmers too for evening rides and see how they fair. I'm quite hopeful they'll be just the ticket.

I was told about Tenn Outdoors the other day, and didn't realise they were based in Hastings. I hope to pop in there before Christmas to get a pair of these for 1066 junior as he does suffer cold feet: www.tenn-outdoors.co.uk/tenn-fluid-waterproof-cycling-overshoes-hi-viz-yellow-1011 He'll not be needing them for soaking wet weather.

Well, I've taken the plunge in a bid to get fitter and tonight saw me join a club chain gang ride for the first time ever.

What an experience! A fast group, 'slow' group and one bloke spat out the back just over half way into the first leg of the out and back ride. Guess where I fit into that equation

Glad I've at least done some work on cadence before dipping my toe in. I was spinning like I've never really spun before and still couldn't keep up once I'd lost the wheel at the back of the group. I now finally understand why IL says that an average cadence in the 90's is very achievable.

I think I can honestly say it's the first time I've felt like I was really racing my bike the whole way rather than just riding it. Exhilarating feeling!, despite being a tad hairy in the pitch black, in a large group and on wet roads. I've put the ride up on Strava and needless to say it's littered with PB's for me (the actual chain gang ride is only about half of what's up as I logged there and back to the ride as well). If they're willing to have me back, then I think I've found my motivation to get out on the bike regularly over winter :)

Sounds a good experience and all the better if it keeps the motivation going at this time of year.

Thanks IL.

To be honest, with a different mindset I could have just as easily been demoralised by it, but I'm determined to take only positives and I really enjoyed it. It's great to have a challenge and to join over 20 people out on a damp evening in December is a real God send for me as I'd never have done that ride on my own tonight. They seem to have good numbers all year round too, so no excuses. Have to say also, it was amazingly warm for a December evening - double figure temperatures!

Great stuff 1!!
I'm glad you're not demoralized, after all riding in a chain gang is just as much about technique, trust and confidence as it is about actual ability.

Hello Everybody, I am still alive!

I moved house then, had a bit of a Virgin broadband balls up, my flat did not exist according to their database! They had to send a man round to verify the reality of my home. Then add in the avoidance of this place during the recent Sami out binfests and I have been away a lot.

I'm probably going to be off here for a while again though, as I fly to Australia on Monday for Chrimbo and New Year. After that though will be back with a vengeance. Looking forward to the Tour Down Under and getting some early 2015 riding done.
