Look at Palace's equivalent. They are high profile and do an awful lot of good for their club just like Gully's Girls used to for us.

It timed with the court case involving a young girl and our players.

Hold on, is this not the Amex COMMUNITY stadium. Where these not local girls doing something free for their local club and enjoying themselves doing it. Where they not the same girls who performed for a few years at the Withdean. Were they not the same girls who helped out at many AITC events and young seagull events, all for free? I used to work with a couple of them, they did so much for the club as you say 2/3 times a week they showed up promoting this and that as well as training.

What did it matter they where not professional? Most people enjoyed it.

I'm actually saying that Gully's Girls were, in the grand scheme of things, fairly crap, and offered little but the opportunity for a few thousand old men to stare at the legs of much younger females as they bounced enthusiastically around the turf.

The financial side of things is probably just an excuse. They were binned because they were a cheap parody of what US sports teams (and some other English football teams) offer. They helped out at sporting events? Well ding dong: ultimately, I'm sure a few of them had aspirations to go on and dance elsewhere as a career move, so the odd personal appearance shaking pom poms in the Albion's cause probably helped in that. Come on: I'd wager there weren't many of them doing it out of sheer love for Brighton & Hove Albion.

No, I'm not a fan of cheerleaders, in case that wasn't obvious. Corporate bullshit: my arse. I just happen to agree with Barber on that occasion: in my opinion, they served no other purpose than to be leched over (and, as I recall, for many blokes to regularly point out "the fat one" with comments like "I hope they're not going to throw her in the air"). What more "corporate bullshit" could you have anyway than a bunch of cheerleaders? Are they in any way rooted in the history of English football? No. They're an imported Americanism, and, yet, ironically, probably supported on here by many of the same people who will declare how #AMF they are. Just like the tragically un-ironic Holmesdale Fanatics do whilst at the same time indulging their teenage fantasies over the Crystals.

Pfffft. I'm sure they were nice girls and I hope they've gone on to better things, but is the Albion a significantly worse a place for their absence? Not in my- personal- opinion.

Bloody pathetic that Gullys Girls got cancelled. I will go with what Hornblower said, loads of kids loved the Gully's Girls and looked up to them too.
If I owned the club I would bring them back again, I would also make sure they got paid for it too. They where a positive face for the club in and outside of the club. Just more PC rubbish again isn't it.

Palace still have theirs don't they, but no we had to get rid of ours, another kick in the teeth.
Didn't one of the Gully's Girls also transfer to Palace which is really just typical.

Must take exception to Edna's comments that the girls were crap and only there for men to lech over. The girls were mostly local who for no payment put on a show and helped keep morale up in the Withdean Years. They were part of us, our club, trying to keep things going until the promised land of Falmer. Also it was not just match days but they were involved in so many other activities that helped to promote the club.

Their good work continued at Falmer and their pre match routines were enjoyed particulary by the children. They helped build up the pre match atmosphere and entertained those in the stands and yes this included us old 'uns who do not want to stand in the concourses drinking and eating. Their routines improved - who can forget the fire eating? If it had been my grandaughter out there doing her bit for the Albion I would have been very proud. As it was they were part of the Albion family over many years.

Now look at the pre match atmosphere, there is not one. Fans Zone is dying a death, Half time we get pitchside interviews which nobody an hear. Oh for some youthful energy and yes even a bit of glamour.
