Well he was the player wanted and should have been signed prior to the Spain tour not 5 days after the season started, so yes string Burke up.

From what it says in The Argus , Ward's agent was telling Burke over the summer there was interest from other clubs. Ward and his agent were in Brighton all ready to go through the medical and sign a contract. We allowed Burnley to intervene

Sounds as though Wolves would or did pull the plug with us the moment Burnley offered them more money.

i'm not sure that's the case. the article is saying as i read it, in a nutshell, that we had ward on loan for the season before and could quite easily have tied up a deal quickly thereafter. the chances of burnley having ward as their number one priority at that time would have been zero.
as much as some posters (at least one multiple times on this thread alone) would like, an early deal would have attracted little attention. yet i also thought it was common knowledge/ assumption on here that we were making him wait because we wanted a good/better/wring the last penny of potential saving deal. and in so doing, for a relatively small amount of money (and weeks after pocketing £mms on ulloa) the club pushed it that little bit too hard and lost out.
and that's not clever, and repeats a pattern established with grabban et al

I am sure Ward would have wanted a nice early contract, relax over the summer break and then train with his new club. As it was we sat back for over 3 months and knobbed it RIGHT up.

Looks to me as if the Argus were pretty much just reporting what the agent said. Hardly their fault (and scarcely surprising) that the club declined to comment.

People are popping off at the club about the transfer but lets remember before there were agents, nearly all transfers went through without the public knowing until the player had signed. Lets have no doubt that the agent would have been phoning any club he thought could have been interested in his player, it's called commission, and I bet he shed no tears when Burnley came in offering bigger money.

I think you missed the point, or chose to ignore it to make the joke, but if you didn't.
Had we signed him earlier in the close season when we had the opportunity he would have been singed and contracted thus Burnley would not have, or been able to make the better offer to a free agent.

We shot ourselves in both feet on that deal. Not only did we miss out on a good permanent signing, we have also maxed out on loans, to the point that his half decent replacement cannot even make the squad.

I'm of the opinion that the club should have acted more decisively, and if they had either we would have signed Ward with Burnley thinking they could do better over the rest of the summer, or forcing Burnley's hand early in the summer giving us more time to find a permanent replacement rather than having to go the loan route. I think the club exploit fans' ignorance of the transfer/wages budgets to spin things however they need them to (increase in the budget, gus overspent, etc). I like that they are trying to stick to a bidget, but would like to think there was leeway to absorb the small increase (i.e. the added amount Wolves supposedly wanted to cover Ward's contract).
But in all this, my question is: why was the interview even done? How often does the build up to a game feature an interview with the agent of a former player?
Is this simply trouble making by Andy Naylor, stirring ill will toward the club due to still being on the outs (a position I'd prefer a local journo to be, rather than in the club's pocket).
Does the agent represent another player we are trying to get or he is trying to shop to us (he talks about tarnished relationships, seems to be trying to justify going elsewhere, while also complimenting Bloom and Burke - yes he blames them, but that could be construed as an attempt to pressure them to act on the new client rather than miss out like they did with Ward)
