It's a sparse crowd here tonight . I'd say 16000 or less through the turnstile .

You're starting to do my head in with the tripe you come out with..
We sold 23,000 tickets not 16,000 tickets....What is it that gripes you to get angry over something so irrelevant? The thing that matters is tickets sold its that simple and im sure you're aware that most clubs do it now,do you see other clubs fans moaning like the half a dozen plonkers on here?
One bloke said a steward told him the attendance a while ago...Maybe bollocks, maybe not as its one person who could be making it up.Then you get a chap last night who apparently saw the correct attendance on a screen, maybe bollocks and maybe not as we'll never know.

Why don't you email the club your issue and while you're at it email all the other clubs and find out what's going on!!!

It's people like you that do my head in...Week after week over such a tiddly thing...TICKETS SOLD IS WHAT MATTERS:rant:

Never thought I'd say this but I'm with you on this one! One minute we've got people moaning about how many JCLs we have, then they're griping about them not showing up!

Personally I could not care less if people do not turn up when they have purchased a ticket but the club should as

1) they are not spending cash at the stadium
2) is could be an indication for the club of an apathy that may manifest itself as less ST renewals

It's the same half a dozen or so plonkers....They never mentioned anything after the boro game because it was about spot on.Most of us know that midweek games are avoided by many fans for various reason's.Many fans buy ST's knowing they won't do midweek games as we don't get that many midweek home games.
Then you have the pay by game supporters who normally add 3k to home matches who gave it a miss in which will happen as we've been shite, what's new in this division?

Christ we're not Real Madrid and our attendances will fluctuate, but our attendance's are still great considering we didn't win in 11 games and we rarely score etc etc.

If we had 19k in the stadium last night...you would would still get these tits saying it was 10k or something:glare:

I need nothing pal...Whats to be concerned about?
The club get the money for 23,000 tickets sold,so a load decided to give it a miss because we were 4th from bottom,no win in 11 and it was midweek...What's the concern or am I missing something?
The STH holders who don't turn up to the ground won't be spending money on food ect at the game though, so the club would lose some money from these people.

The other clubs attendances listed above will also include STH seats empty.......we're not doing so bad really.

Not to mention of course that if you buy a season ticket - or anything else for that matter - but increasingly find that you're not using it, you're far less likely to buy another one. But hey, who cares. Everything's great, remember Withdean in the rain etc etc.

And if the long term overall trend is falling numbers actually attending, that would be a major concern to the Board, as an indicator of numbers likely to renew s/t's next Spring.

My point was about the terminology used. Nothing to do with our club specifically. The term attendance nowadays is being used to describe something completely different.

I know the club know exactly how many people are in the stadium. I know it doesn't really matter what they tell us. Like I said, it's a small thing that gets on my tits.

And now you've gone and called me a PLONKER and hurt my feelings. I hope you're pleased with yourself....

I don't agree with many of your posts but on this occasion you're spot on.

It baffles me how the same juvenile clique can continually whip themselves into a tizzy about such a trivial matter. We all know it's pretendance not attendance, let's just get over it, wipe our eyes and blow our noses and be brave little soldiers about it and move on.

It's just another step towards the nonsense that football in the top flight has become.

MFIS says it all really.

Does Barber really think that sponsors / advertisers (and potential sponsors / advertisers) are going to be taken in by the ridiculous inflation of the attendance figures? Does he really? If he does, then maybe I should try to tempt him with my magic beans!
Short answer - yes. It's all part of the initial sales pitch: "We have the highest attendances in the Championship, etc etc etc". At the very best it's an obfuscation; potential advertisers/sponsors then have to go and dig a bit deeper (if they can) to find out what the real figure is.

Haven't you ever considered it's done due to the tax man.

They want a figure that they can then charge us on and by having 2 sets of attendance figures, then it can become 'dodgy' and so all clubs are having to announce their attendance as the higher figure of tickets sold.

There used to be a lot of creative attendances in the past where a ground could be sold out and everyone crammed in and then they announce the crowd as not even being at capacity. With an electronic audit trail for ticket sales, clkubs have to be more truthful in their figures than in the past.

ST seats are sold but if unused, the club can't resell them if the demand was there in case the ST holder turns up, the club have this income so to fail to include this in their attendance would raise accounting questions

It's not the club being dodgy and it's not a cause to be suspicious of how the club is being run

If you'd read the whole thread (and I'll grant you it's long with lots of side issues) you'll see your argument has already been raised and countered. I'll repeat it anyway to save you looking: There are NOT two sets of 'attendance' figures. There is a figure of 'tickets sold' and a figure for 'attendance'. They are two COMPLETELY separate sets of figures and have two COMPLETELY different uses. There is absolutely no chance that the club could 'accidentally' confuse the two (unless of course you think the club is being run by shysters and/or incompetents. And despite the differences of opinions expressed on here I don't think anybody thinks that).
