The crowd this evening

Would these clubs woith "historically larger support" be clubs who historically have been one, two or three divisions above BHA? If so then you are not comparing like with like. Brighton have historically had the 11th best support in the country despite playing lower league football and crowds of 34000 for Rochdale at home. Remarkable dont you think? The problem at Brighton is not and never has been the support, its the team. The club has had no success at all except Charlie Webb's heroes of 1910 and a brief spell of top flight football in the late 70's and early 80's. If only the team was half as good as the support, then that would have the crowds flocking even more. But still, 23000 on a midweek for Cardiff in the Championship. Not bad, not bad at all.
do you always believe what you hear???

Once the glory years ended at the Goldstone the crowds quickly melted away to 10000 or less and was the same at Withdean, once we stopped winning and started selling anyone half decent the crowds dwindled and you couldn't give tickets away let alone sell them. Now we see the first test at the AMEX of the clubs abilities to either make sure there is a team worth paying top dollar to see or being able to stop the fair weathers drifting away, personally I can see us being lucky to have 15000 season ticket holders for the 2015/16 season the way things are going

One issue with all seater stadiums is that they look terrible, and lack atmosphere, when the crowd is small. 10,000 at the Goldstone and you were still in a crowd even if not packed in. 10,000 at the Amex and you could be surrounded by spaces.....

But the atmosphere seems better with a smaller crowd at The Amex......weird

As I've said previously drop the prices for match day purchase as season tickets will continue to dwindle as more people wise up

The prices are just to much for a one off game for a Championship club.

West Ham had tickets for £30 the other day and kids for a quid.

We've got a lot of people "turning up" and not enough being proper "fans". Too many no-shows, too many people not bothering to sing, less people staying behind after the match, too much moaning about this and that.

If people want this club to succeed then many need to start by looking in the mirror and assessing their own contribution.

It's not really about results, it's about watching a team that fights to win, looks like scoring, and does score on occasion. Plus it doesn't help when the players you grow to love one season, are regularly sold before the next. No long term plan, and little evidence on the pitch of progression or ambition of promotion.

Personally I think a relegation scrap and even a season in league one would be more fun than mid table meandering in the Championship, but I may be in the minority...

Both of the points above are utter bollocks. Crowds are down because of our league position. The football is demonstrably better than last year.

The second point is sooooooo spoilt. The last 4 seasons have seen - Winning League 1, Holding our own in the 2nd tier for the first time in over 20 years, Playoffs, Playoffs. One year of mid table (if that's what happens) doesn't really demonstrate poor value.

We allowed a couple of those seats to be empty, I have an 11 and 8 year old getting to bed at 10.30 is too late for them on a school night, unfortunately I couldn't convince any mates to go either. There are too many midweek games, and the lads miss 6-8 home games a year.

This was for Capital One Cup. Next 2 home league games : QPR range from £43-60 and for Man City from £55-75 per adult. Doesn't sound cheap to me. Sounds about in line with what i'd expect at the AMEX if we went up, and we wouldn't have to put up with Allardyce tactics!

Why on earth did the club make Cardiff at home on a weeknight a category B game?

Unless we are playing Real Madrid midweek games should always be the lowest price.

It put off someone in my office who was thinking of going.

I thought the atmosphere was OK on Tuesday

The club are seriously poor at selling Match Day Tickets though.
Actually they've increased this year by 1000 ish..We sell roughly 3k Matchday tickets although they're way to expensive to be fair. The club really need to scrap the travel bollox and reduce ST's by £100 next season in which would mean our cheapest would be the same or just above readings ST prices.

So cheap although they get parachute payments

One of the problems with scrapping the travel, apart from it being a condition of the licence to use The Amex is the delays and problems it would cause at Brighton and Falmer station with the ticket staff checking tickets or people using the automatic exits.

Plenty of clubs have thousands of fans flocking to the station at the same time...I would suspect probably 10,000 max use the trains and spread over 1-2 hours...it shouldn't be a massive issue. Many would leave earlier or take alternative transport,so it would actually spread out more.

I really can't see this free travel lark going on for the next 100 years to be honest...I thought it'd be for a few years until things pans out etc.

Imagine howe long it would take a train load from Brighhton between 2 and 3 on a Styurday to get through Falmers exits if tickets are being checked, whioch they would as ythe train companies would start losing ready money.

why would you need to check tickets at falmer when you've done it at brighton?
I don't know how it's set up at brighton station, but a dozen underground type machines and ticket guards would be ample.Fans would then eventually spread out over time, rather than rushing on the latter trains like they do now.

There are two underground type machines already at Falmer which are left open on a matchday. It causes congestion already because of the density of the crowd walking through them, even though there is an open gate as well.
I travel from an unmanned station so nobody is going to check my ticket at the start of the journey. Your thinking is far too simplistic.

We are getting more than we did on average during the 4 years in the top division 1979-83. During that time it went up to £3 for an adult. You'd have seen Bryan Robson, Rush, Dalgleish, Ardiles, Hoddle, Brooking, Marriner, Trevor Francis, Kevin Keegan [i think], Peter Shilton, Frank Stapleton, Andy Gray etc. Today's crowds are good. Though it's a large catchment area other towns/cities have traditionally had a much higher percentage of the population following them. Obviously I wish it was still 30k every home game but don't panic.
