My point was you're a left winger so you're bound to attack a Tory PM even with a rather tenuous argument.

I would consider myself left of centre, I voted no, he shouldn't resign over this. but I think it is per verse, as some people on here seem to be doing, to blame Labour for the current close run thing. It was not their decision to have the vote in the first place, decide the wording of the question.

And I think Cameron's desperation Today, raising the Saltire at 10 Downing Street and so on could do more harm than good to the no campaign.

labour gave the Scots devolution, which has led to the inevitable referendum.

Unless the polls are lying (or people telling pollsters how they will vote changed their minds), the 'No' campaign has already lost.

Bear with me.

What I mean is, if the final result is within one or two percent of each other - as the current polls seem to suggest - it's pretty incredible that it's got to this state of affairs when the 'No' campaign has always had a sizeable lead. One year ago, the polls said 'Yes - 25%, No - 44%, Don't Know - 31%' (That's 63.7% / 36.3% for those who'd made their minds up at that time). Even a month ago, it was 'Yes - 32%, No - 45%'.

I'm trying to work out what's happened in that time since. What I've seen (or believed I've seen - I've not viewed it through the eyes of a Scotsman) is three Westminster leaders utterly inept at justifying to waverers the continuation of a strong political union which has been in place for 300 years.

It could be that the 'No' campaigners will win, but if the result is as close as is currently being suggested, then fingers will be pointed. One month ago, the result should have been a shoo-in for them. I don't think any of the Westminster party leaders will come out of this well.

Will they resign? No. Should they resign? Porbably not - what would be achieved? Will all three individuals suffer for it later? Very possibly.

The fact that Gordon Brown is now seen as the last hope now shows that the no camp are really in the last chance salon.

Ah yes, I can see from your username that you're a Blairite....

Actually yes, he should resign. The first and foremost responsibility of her Majesty's government is the preservation of the Union. If he has any honour at all, he has no choice but to offer his resignation.

This.

Will Great Britain have to revert to just Britain? Great seems a bit OTT for just England and Wales.
