Sami quote from the article

He is a deep-lying midfielder and the scouting reports I have seen on him show he likes to get on the ball, pass it and dictate the play – and I hope he can bring that to the team

Not seen him play?

Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of Dutch midfielder Danny Holla on a three-year contract, until June 2017.

Please say this is a good signing

"The 26-year-old former Groningen and Den Haag man watched Albion's game at Birmingham City yesterday, before undergoing a medical and signing for the club last night."

I'm gobsmacked he didn't sneak off to birmingham international and do a bunk on the evening KLM flight

In our system we play with two holding midfielders. Toko and Holla will be the two.

When do we play that? In training? Against Wednesday Ince was holding with JFC and Crofts slightly advanced. Either way Stockdale's 70 yard lumps bypassed them all.

Can score goals but only every 10 games. Guessing that will be more than COG though.

14 in 54 appearances for Den Haag since 2012 :bigwave:

"He is a deep-lying midfielder and the scouting reports I have seen on him show he likes to get on the ball, pass it and dictate the play – and I hope he can bring that to the team." - the reports I have seen on him.

Has Sammi actually seen him play? Hope this works out I honestly do but as the report suggests 'he's not been with a club all pre-season so we'll have to assess his fitness and get him up to speed'. Surely if he was that good someone else would have signed him?

Sorry to sound unexcited but seems another cheap option to me. Hope I'm wrong.

39 goals in 212 games is more like 1 in 6. Seems very high to me for a defensive midfielder. I'd be happy with a return of 1 in 10 anyway - that's not bad at all for that position.

I wonder if most of those goals are penalties & freekicks? If so that is certainly something we need at the club after Lopez departing.

The system is becoming a bit clearer as it looks like he has been brought in as a deep lying midfielder to do the job that JFC isn't capable of. Looks like he will be tasked with launching quick attacks from deep. JFC has been playing that role and now we know why.

You feel that the defensive midfield role is a key area for us in terms of recruitment ? Get real.

Width, left back and at least 2 strikers is where we need strengthening and quickly.

This signing suggests to me either Toko or Ince arnt up to the task in Hyypias opinion.

I thought Ince was woeful yesterday. Not sure why Toko hasn't had a decent run-out. Our strikers, whether it be Laurel & Hardy yesterday or anyone new need the ball. TexMex looked the only one with any clue how to feed them yesterday, and if we're going to go through the middle then strength there is vital.
Whatever the scenario, the important thing is to give someone whom is being well paid the chance to do his job and get behind him. If it then goes belly up then so be it, but be positive and give him a bloody chance.

Very cute though, could replace Orlandi on that front?

A youtube search for Danny Holla comes up with "Danny Holla in most fashionable footballer". Looks like he's attending some Dutch fashion show or awards. Anyway, his female partner is very nice looking, and the video improves even more after that. Sorry, but worth a watch!
