Yes, one game into Hyypias tenure and it is obvious he just doesn't know what he is doing, completely inept. We should sack him now, and get in a manager who knows what he is doing, and will wave to the crowd the whole game. Ninety minutes of football is more than enough for all the experts on here, some of whom were actually at the game today, to pass judgement on a man with a vast amount of experience in the game, until of course the next manager (the fans choice) has the temerity to lose a game.

It's not Sami I'm worried about. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Or to put it another way what's the Finnish for this?

agree with this but it won't make the happy clapper brigade love you. It looks like a tough season ahead and when the new players ( if any ) do come in we could be 10-15pts behind and playing catch up with players who are likely to need pre season training of sorts and then getting used to our style of play. Fail to prepare prepare to fail

Ooh, I had a sense of deja vu just now....

We are only three points of top place, excactly the same as last year, and we finished sixth. It's a very long season, and even if we don't get the play offs or higher, I really expect to still enjoy it, I usually do, thats why I keep coming back, year on year.

And i think we'll finish top ten

The squad we have is not capable of top 10. I do think we have to see what the next 22 days brings, but if the previous 2 and a bit months is anything to go by, my confidence in us bringing in the players we need to compete at the right end of the table is currently very low.

It's way too early to judge Sami, but if I was him, right now I would be feeling pretty pissed off at how quickly reinforcements are being brought in, regardless of what is being said behind closed doors.

Looking around where I sit (WSU) I don't think anyone was in the least bit surprised by today's result. Wednesday were very ordinary, we were even more so - no shape, no obvious tactics and definitely no threat up front. Stock dale was ok but some of his clearances were poor (three straight into touch); on several occasions, especially in the first half, two and three players went for the same ball in midfield and finished up losing it; O'Grady laid the ball off quite well a couple of times, but was slow and cumbersome, and Fenelon looked totally out of his depth and offered nothing. Ok, it's only one game but there was nothing to feel the slightest bit optimistic about.

That is exactly my thought too.

End of the season and if - IF - we get near to and miss out on an automatic place or a play off place by 5-10 points, it will be of the clubs own doing. The games in August are as important as the final few games of the season, lets give points away because we are waiting for Prem hand me downs in a bargain bucket rather than investing and getting points under our belts now.

I agree with a previous poster too, who said Gus was the last manager who was backed financially and signed who he wanted - oh how it is different now, we will keep losing managers/head coaches with this carrying on how it is.

Feeling very downhearted after this game, normally very positive but today angered me. We are short of 3/4 quality players and then Sami chooses to started with an even weaker starting 11, incredible. Can only get better I suppose and no doubt will feel more positive after a few beers, good nights sleep and a good old storm if we get one.

You see, this is my problem with all the bollox spouted on here. Nobody knows what is spoken about behind closed doors, althouth there are a lot on here who would have you believe they do. As i have said on here numerous times, we don't know who we are looking at, how many we are close to signing, an how many we miss for various reasons, we don't even know the reasons, for christs sake. Every thing the club does in the recruitment department seems extremely professional to me, if we miss players, we miss them, but, I would bet that we move heaven and earth to sign the pkayers we would like, some won't come cos of the wages, some wont come because of length of contract, and some like, shall we say a little sweetener, that we are not prepared to pay. But to imagine that the club hierarchy doesn't want success is bordering on madness, and very disrespectful to Tony Bloom etc. Judge the transfer window when it closes, not before

Right. Glad I've got your attention. Obviously it's the first game of a long season. Obviously the transfer window closes at the end of August and we appear to have several irons in several fires. Obviously playing with 10 men against a team as adept at time wasting as Wednesday is never going to turn out well. Obviously we still have a club, The Amex is lovely, the seats are padded yada, yada, yada.

Nevertheless I am about to wet the bed. Regular readers on here and of last season's blog will know this is actually out of character. I understand FFP. I understand how much money TB has put in and, no, I don't have that much myself. I understand we have the best Academy in the country and this is going to give us a rosy long term future. So I have to say:

When you start with Shamir Fenelon and O'Grady in the Championship where once it was Barnes and Ulloa you are going backwards. When you have to play your reserve right back as a left wing back you are going backwards. When you play another ex-devteam squad player as one of two holding midfielders when his major weakness is tackling you are going backwards. When you no longer have Mathew Upson reading the game and controlling the spine you are going backwards. When your answer to this is to put on an overweight, out of favour player with the pace of a snail on mogadon and who cannot accurately pass a bottle of port you are going backwards.

This squad doesn't need three or four additions. It needs major surgery.

Agreed 100%

It seems clear that what TB and co have done is place a strict budget on wages and the result is we have what seems to me a substantially worse team than last season. My gut tells me that we will be doing well to finish in the top half of the table unless something dramatic happens.

Our biggest problem is the age-old football problem - expectation!

We've been spoilt for a few years now, but it's quite clear that this is currently the weakest squad since probably Micky Adams mark 2. However, the club is still trying to blow the smoke up our arse that we all should all rally round and thinking like Premier League Ready, paying the prices everyone has to pay, while simultaneously getting to the opening game of the season being nothing like close to having our squad ready.

Expectation levels have been raised, for me, the club has 3 weeks to prove that it is as serious about meeting the expectations that THEY have put into the supporters.

And what if they don't? Will you go off and support Arsenal or some other Premier League team? I've been watching the Albion since 1969 on and off, they are in my blood, I had a season ticket when we were averaging 3500 in the last Goldstone years, bottom of the fourth division, trust me , this is heaven compared to that

Heaven that costs £45 a month on DD and comes with a 4 pints (of badly poured, long queued for beer) for £16 "deal".

Think yourself lucky you're not eighteen.
