It'll be brilliant business if he is number 2/3 striker, far better than we've had in recent years. I genuinely hope we do sign another striker though...

We will but I wouldn't be surprised if he's bought for less than £3.5m, and new to English football.
Which will cause another set of problems.

I think we all do, pretty sure Hyypia said something about wanting to add more attacking options after signing O'Grady and with 7 odd million for Leo and 3 week before the season starts I think we're in a very healthy position

IMO getting a solid striker in will pretty much complete our squad (assuming we finally get Ward). Hughes is the ideal replacement for Upson and I like what I've seen of Toko so far. I think Hyypia's new formation will see less reliance on out and out wingers to be staioned on the flanks, I think we'll see a front 3 which could be any combination of March, Buckley, KLL, O'Grady, CMS and STRIKER X. I think the full backs will do the majority of the running of the flanks.

Don't ****ing tell me that's a crime

Here's the thing, Burke shoulders the blame every time we get linked to a relative unknown or inexperienced player, my question is this, is it because Burke can't spot a player for sh*t or his he working with such an unrealistic budget he's always going to look inept?

Well was it an unrealistic budget last season or did Burke waste the majority of it?
My view he made ONE good use of the budget last season and that was Ward.
The signings of Chicksen, Agustein, Andrews, Obika, Lita and Rodrigues were wasted wages, but Chicksen may yet come good. Add all those wages together and it would be one hell of a sum.

The price is of little interest to me (obviously I don't want to see us getting our pants pulled down), I don't mind if he costs £5 or £5m just as long as he has the pedigree to lead the line for us in this division.

But this is what I'm getting at. What if Lita and Obika etc were the best options available at that time with the budget available? He can only sign what is available within his budget.

I don't mean to offend anyone but - some people on here need to stop wetting themselves, spend ages moaning about no signings then when there are signings you moan, yeah sure he's a "28 year old journeyman" the fact is that he scored more goals for a relegated side in the championship than Ulloa did in the championship, so don't get all pissy, I'm sure he'll do well..., besides we don't even know if its just a wind up yet...

Remember Ings ad Vokes last year at Burnley. Its not the individual but the team that counts. Lets wait and see, good luck to him hope he scores a hatful for us.

Bizarre of anyone to assume he's the "main man". What is it based on?
True, but at the moment what indication is there that he isn't?
the Argus mentions he's not a replacement for Ulloa
The Argus isn't always right though, is it?
What other indication would we get though? The club are hardly going to say 'we've got £3m to spend on a striker' and make other clubs up their price.

Well with the million we were supposed to have agreed with Bournemouth for Grabben, I think proves money was still available and the money used for Lita and Obika was just a waste.

You certainly can't include Chicksen even with a proviso.
Id say Andrews played a decent part in getting us into the playoffs, when Ince ran out of steam.
Agustein is the most intriguing his flair was definitely missing, he could be interesting.
As for the others, they were all ploppy and show how hard it is to get a goal scorer.

Making the negativity on this thread all the more surprising.

Are we having a laugh or what, we need a Forward!!!! Someone to replace Ulloa who will definitely go now, especially this is the type of player we are looking to sign. Calm down calm down let's see what goalkeeper and left back he signs......watch this space!!!

Part of me thinks we can do better. Part of me thinks he may excel I a better team.

Going for the latter - good luck Chris.

Nobody will dispute Obika and Lita were a waste, and it is a shame we missed out on Grabban. It is indicative that money was available but if Grabban was the only player good enough that was available at that time I'd rather we didn't just spunk it on someone for the sake of. We have to make it count now though, we need to get a quality striker throught the door before the window closes.

A credible link or firm offer made, perhaps.
But our club (thankfully) likes to keep quiet about potential signings. We often don't hear until the last minute, and with the possibility of bringing another striker in from abroad I'd think we're even less likely to hear until it's happening.

We tried to buy Grabbon in January, despite the other strikers we still had. Having now sold (as it seems) Ulloa (for excellent money), there is no way we're not trying to bring in another. No way.

He scored more than the rest of our team last season.

We heard about trying to sign Baldock and Grabban.

When we tried to sign Grabban we had 1 striker, the club was aware Barnes was leaving. We now have 2, 3 if we're including Fenelon. I don't think it's a dead cert that we will be after another striker, but I'll say it again, I hope we do.
