Well...With a population of one eighth of GB, there were four times as many people killed by guns last year in Switzerland than there were here. That suggests that you are about 30 times as likely to be killed by a gun in Switzerland than in the UK. Not in the same league as the US, but it doesn't equate to 'no problems there.'

The US government want guns off the people? Give over. The US government is in the pocket of the gun lobby. Even if they did want the guns off the people, when a kindergarten class of five year olds doesn't make the american people and gun lobby stop and say 'hang on a minute, we really should do something', why on earth would a "minor" shooting of 7 teenagers change things, just because one of his parents was an assistant director on a film. Do you really think the only reason there is still such loose gun control in America is that Hollywood hasn't come out against guns?

To the phrase "gunman" - I'm really sorry that you've been removed from popular usage on this side of the Atlantic. I still use you but the influx of a culture that is so strongly influenced by all things 'Americana' means that I fear you may not be around for much longer. Occult symbolism in a movie based on a book? Absolutely. Plenty of novels take existing tropes/ideas/cultures/etc and re-appropriate them.
The wife of a second unit director got to be in some of the movies he works on (uncredited in the case of the hunger games because it was such an insignificant role)? Well I never! Who knew nepotism existed in Hollywood?!
