The New Bush, Arundel Road. This one is truly EastEnders brought to Brighton: a really nasty, threatening vibe, where grunting, tattooed, head-shaven punters (the men are even worse) glare at you menacingly as you dare to cross the threshold.

Their own extensive bill of fare: "Draught beers served are: Fosters, Carling 1664 and San Miguel" says it all. None of yer real ale nancy-boys in here, mate. This boozer is well into Whitehawk's manor.

Ask for a small glass of Châteauneuf-du-Pape at your peril.

Looking forward to the pics of Bozza and edna krabappel giving out the trophy for this one.

Mwahahaha.

I think I'll back up those voting down the Branch Tavern, as that's pretty dire. Almost all the pubs in West Street can go on the list, that goes without saying. What that large chain pub on the south west corner of East Street, pretentious place and horrifically overpriced?

My winner would probably still be a certain pub by the Level that's already won a few votes on here. Not just for it's dark, grubby, interior, not just because of the clientele usually found slumped semi-comatose on the tables outside (hey, it makes a change from glugging White Lightning on a bench by St Peter's church), but because it's a favoured rendezvous point for those looking to fence off stuff they've just stolen from nearby supermarkets.

Couple of packets of knocked off Sainsbury's fillet steak up your jumper that you need to get a few quid for? You know where to go!

On a different note has anyone ever had a pint in the boozer opposite the Magistrates' Court? I always imagined it to be a ghastly spit and lino palace serving Carlsberg to teenage car thieves and Jameson's to bent coppers. Never been in though.
Yes, it's a lesbian bar, or it was. I was a little surprised.

The Jury's Out.

(That's it's name, not me sitting on the fence). Didn't realise it was a bar for the ladies. Just thought it was a dive.

The Marlborough, now that is very much a ladies bar.

No votes for the County Oak? Thought that had a bit of a reputation. ???

There were always lots of delightful pubs around that way. I didn't realise the County Oak was still open.

The Snipe, or, as it was anagramatically referred to, the Penis, was always a classic of it's genre too. Now a Sainsbury's Local.

Good call on the Dorset. Pretentious shit with no beer. But, it has to be the Open House I think- shit beer, moody staff, could be so much better so easily which I think is the most disappointing thing.

They have Harveys these days. Too much like a cafe for me though.

That's the one and, if true, that's absolutely the last thing I would've expected!

I'll allow the Open House.

What I'm saying is I think people are judging it from three years ago.

Three years ago I think it would win a poll for the worst thing in Brighton let alone pub.
I still think it's pretty poor now, and despite it being fiftenn years later the bar staff do exactly what the other staff did when I worked there of not serving anyone they didn't know or were trying to bang

:lolol: The fact that you're not all BANNED* after this tells you all you need to know about the place. I used it as an emergency bolt hole if being pursued by a munter.

*of course you could all be banned.

Jury's Out? It's not a terrible place. You haven't missed much though.

Perhaps controversial but I'd like to nominate THE STONEHAM. Barely counts as a pub. More of a pizzeria/creche.

I'm suprised The Railway Bell hasn't come up.

I'd like to make it clear I'm not nominating the place, I actually quite admire it for sticking to it's guns in an area of generally brilliant pubs.

What's the one before you get to the Queen's Head as you walk up the road to Brighton Station? Never been in but it's always empty, looks pretty basic.

Chequers

Horatios

Do Harvester's count? Because all 3 I can think of in Brighton are pony - Black Lion, The one on the Marina and the one next to the Sealife Centre.
