1. Maybe.
2. Some.
3. Yes he wanted him, but so did Blackburn and they have recieved a £16M parachute payment this season, guess who offered the best deal.
4. Grabban was happy with the wage but wanted a longer term deal, Bournemouth offered him that and he did not have to move anywhere to get it. Bournemouth may yet regret that though, he has a deal now that runs for 3 years, during which time FFP gets tighter and tighter, he is likely to be their top earner and if he has a season long injury like CMS or Hoskins have had, they are unlikely to have any funds within FFP to loan in cover, much like we haven't had this season.

It is totally clear who is driving recruitment, I don't know why people say this, it is Burke and his scouting team, the club state this. But he drives it for Oscar, if Oscar says we need a left back, Burke gives him a list of who he thinks might fit the bill and then tries to sign Oscars first choice, and if that is too expensive or does not come off they move down the list.
We would have no more money to spend if Oscar was doing the dealing.

So every player brought in, is who Burke thinks is a good player and good enough to go on a short list. Not done to well this season then has he?

Though I would say that come the end of the season he will be snapped up by a Prem club and Bmouth will get more for him than they would have done from us. I think we were going to pay around £1m, but they will get at least £3m for him and it may be far higher than that.

How could someone possibly be both a.) in that sort of demand and b.) a hopeless incompetent?

Yet this appears to be the case, if the denizens of this board are to be believed.

Without wishing to appear as I'm jumping on the ''let's bash Jones'' bandwagon..how much influence do u think he has, given Garcia's lack of experience in English football (all but one of the signings have been British)

We've had the Chairman of the Board and the Director of Football make public statements that the last word goes to Oscar. Now unless I'm falling gullibly for a cunning ruse to keep me spoonfed and sanitised, what evidence beyond circumstantial (i.e. loan signings have been mediocre at best) does anyone have to doubt those senior figures within the club?

And if Oscar doesn't have the final say, what chance is there of him sticking around to work with players he doesn't want or rate or didn't choose? Admittedly, every manager acquires a dud or two along the way - Ferguson signed some howlers - but at what point did anyone say to Oscar 'you must defer to Nathan Jones for the final say'?

It might be amazing. Has Jones got a bad record as a manager or is it utter guesswork?

I have nothing against Jones as assistant but I'd be pretty down if he became our manager tbh. He has no record as a manager that I know of and I suggest he'd be better off serving his apprenticeship at a League 1 or 2 team.

One thing I doubt it would be is "amazing" if he got the job here.

Here's a totally hypothetical situation:

David Burke identifies five strikers as we know we are going to sell Barnes. Three are thrown out immediately leaving Grabban and Obika on the list.

DB: Who do you want?
OG: Grabban please
NJ: Obika please

Both are pursued but only one landed, the one the head coach really didn't want after all. Having realised this was an error Rodriguez who wasn't even on the original list is added when he becomes available due to being released.

Might be complete bollox of course but the point is Oscar probably has the final say in who we should target, NOT what we should pay them or their other personal terms.

I think you are correct TLO he has the LAST say to any he picks from a possibly sh*t list chosen by David Burke.

I doubt he'll go, he's not complained this season about our budget, and the majority of the fans will want another season from him.

While not "complaining", he made a number of comments about our restrictive budget earlier this season. About 4 or 5 articles in a row he mentioned it.

Well I never said that Garcia doesn't have the final say..and you won't find a single post from me criticising Jones... I was merely wondering how much he lent on Jones knowledge of the English game in making his transfer decisions....maybe I'm not putting myself over that well.

I guess every manager/coach in the higher leagues relies upon recommendations of there scouting network...some they get to see ..some they probably just see a video of.

I posted this on the other thread - Jones managed the dev squad at Charlton winning the league, with our dev squad as runners up, last season. He was also assistant manager at Yeovil.
These are facts, so don't take this information as affirming that I want him to be manager.

Also didn't that Spanish lady journalist stir it a little re lack of a transfer budget

Yup. Difference between Gus and Oscar in this regard is Oscar has a bit more tact. Gus didn't give a shit.
