It's a very important time of the year here in Washington D.C - Beer Madness, with the Washington Post staging it's annual beer tasting competition.

There are some absolute classics in that line up, all from the local region, including one or three of my favorites. Will be fascinating see this progress.

The Amex guest ale thing can be a little hit and miss. Recently we have had two "craft beers" that demonstrate this perfectly. Yesterday it was Yardbird an American style IPA at 4%. Fresh and balanced but conservative for the style. Pleasant enough and I would recommend it before any of Greene Kings mainstream beers.
A few weeks back we had an abomination from Batemans a chocolate biscuit beer that was revolting. Bateman's brew a fantastic range of traditional English ales, that are well worth seeking out on the East Coast of England, this one does not belong in the same company.

Which bars sell these guest ales? I would love to have tried the Yardbird yesterday, but made do with a Harvey's as usual.
Do they only sell them in Dick's Bar?
Not sure but I didn't have to go looking. They have them on sale in the Lower East, maybe ask at the counter next time, it is quite easy to miss the signs.

Tried a pint of Underdog last night and was a bit underwhelmed. Felt the same about the three other beers I tried as well, so maybe I was just in a funny mood.

The Bourbon County stout was marginally the better of the 2 but they were both outstanding beers. Not feeling at my absolute best this morning though, I might even swerve the Friday night visit to the Star.

I have had Beer Geek Breakfast myself at a Mikkeller pop-up bar. Quite an amazing and silky smooth stout isn't it?

I know it's a bit military medium, but I've been enjoying a couple
Of sainsburys American pale ales this evening and a few Punk IPAs and one or two Boston lagers. Together with a Large Ones venison shank and some home made ice cream. Yum.

Beautiful, I think I'll crack one open tomorrow whilst dealing with the mothers. I've drowned my sorrow with hop overload this evening. Stopped off at Trafalgar Wines and got 1 Beavertown Gamma Ray, 1 Weird Beard Holy Hopping Hell, 1 Pressure Drop Bosko and 1 Buxton Brewery Axe Edge.
Still hasn't quite managed the pain.

The Mikkeller George range is good as well. They are barrel-aged imperial stouts.

It seems the craft message is being spread high as well as low. I was making a few essential purchases up in Val Thoren and spotted a small batch of beer bottles. It turns out they are from an artisanal Savoie region brewery. I purchased 3 bottles of their Ambre beer. Keep a look out for my Savoie cheese and beer special report at the end of the week.

Have you had the Mikkeller/ Brewdog one in a light blue bottle. It's caught my eye the last couple of times in Trafalgar Wines? I was thinking of picking one up this evening...

I had a very nice IPA from Marks and Spencers yesterday - Citra. Citrusy, hoppy but good for Sunday drinking at 4.9% ABV.

I have had the Brewdog/Mikkeller double IPA which is called I Hardcore You. It was rather good, a classic double IPA. Not sure if this is what you are referring to as I think the bottle was a regular brown but the label was a pastel green/blue? But I recommend it.
Brilliant shop is Trafalger Wines.

That's the boy and yes it is the label not the bottle and furthermore you are right that it is green rather than blue. I picked up a bottle.
Aside from that I thought my description was pretty accurate.

Yay. Good work; enjoy. As mentioned it's a brilliant double-IPA and very well balanced between caramel sweet and bitter. A favourite in my household. But dont listen to me; it gets a whopping 99/100 on RateBeer.
