This competition is all about championing. If a beast doesn't have anyone to champion it and fight its corner it has no chance. For relatively small, unknown beasts the better the mrketing campaign, the better the beast will do. The prime example of this is the black mamba winning in 2012. In previous years it had no supporters and did nothing. Then in 2012 it got one or two people who did a marvellous job promoting it and it went on the rampage and won the whole thing. t got no backing the following year and got knocked out early, as it did this year.

In short if you want the wolverine to do well...start campaigning now!
