Am i missing something about this player? He's meant to be the goal scoring box-to-box replacement for Crofts yet his goal scoring record is just one goal all season. Sceptical.

To be fair, he's playing in a shit side. How many has Crofts scored in a much better one?

No he isn't. Where has the club said that?

Stephens is a DIRECT replacement for Bridcutt.

Are you sure? If so even more baffling as we already have Andrews & Ince.

I can't KNOW what Oscar's plans are for him, of course, but he played the deep lying role for Charlton.

As a central midfielder he's far more like (a much better) Gary Dicker, than Andrew Crofts. He's not going to charge about winning tackles, and snapping at people's heels. He'll look for space and time and spray passes about.

This is what a Charlton season ticket holder friend said of him.
A decent Championship player, no more than that. Definitely not Premiership which is why they were surprised when A.Villa were sniffing around.
Cant see how he fits into you squad as your guys (BHA) have small technical players. (I explained that has been changing. He said he is a tall CM who wins the ball) (sounded a bit like our Ince).
I asked him to value him... he said never more the 1.5 million (which I thought was a lot).
Asked whether he was one of there best players he said ..... he is alright/good but not best.

Andrews is only on loan, remember. We'll also nee cover if we have injuries/rest people.

It sounds like Stephens can play either the Bridcutt or the Crofts role. Someone mentioned earlier that he used to be further advanced but stays back to allow Jackson to get forward - so it seems he may be comfortable doing both.

Flexible.

I wouldn't read too much into the role he plays for Charlton. Rohan Ince thought he was a central defender till Oscar pointed out his mistake !

He's scored four goals this season in 30 appearances, compared to six goals in 27 for Crofts. So there is nothing much in it.

13.33% is a lot lower than 22.22%

but yes you're right, it's not a lot of goal difference.

We'll have to see of course but I still think it looks like an odd signing. We have Agustein and Orlandi, who can both spray passes about but both sit on Oscar's bench. How he can leave Orlandi, our best creative player out, is baffling and depressing.

Orlandi isn't fully fit and is too lightweight for the middle. Kemy isn't mobile enough IMO.
