Bridcutt Close to Signing for Sunderland? (Sky Sports News)

To me, that's re-writing history a bit, and making the team sound one-dimensional. There were times when we could whizz and ping the ball about like greased weasel-shit, and Bridcutt would be in the thick of it.

Besides, Bridcutt's best work, and his speciality, is when we don't have the ball.

And if you're going to use 'slow football' as a marker to beat Gus with, how slow was the Reading game for the most part?

No, you are rewriting history there TLO. Gus' style was predominantly a careful passing game, knocking it around at the back until the time was right. Oscar's is predominantly much quicker.

Bennett & Noone are becoming established Premier League players, but Murray & Hammond are yet to play a game.

However CKR and Crofts can be added to the list

Murray was the Championship top scorer last season and Hammond went into the Championship before the Albion by playing at Colchester.

If/when Bridders does move on the potential future sell on clause will be crucial. Say he eventually ends up at Anfield or three points lane for 10 million+. I'm sure Bloom will get the best possible deal for the club.

Why do so many posters assume Bridcutt will be on premier league wages if Sunderland get relegated...?

I am aware they would get parachute payments, but most clubs these days (with FFP) have relegation clauses in their contracts.

I believe relegation clauses aren't as common as one would think, especially with clubs at the low end in danger of relegation. It's easier to insert one with a contract for arsenal, who are in no danger, but players rarely want to sign for a club because they are offering £X per week when there is a very real risk that in a few months it will drop to £X/4 per week. It becomes a bargaining chip, and to get that clause in, they will often have to put in relegation release clauses meaning they could lose that player for very little or nothing at all.

"We play one way, no matter where or who against" - Gus Poyet.

I loved our footy under Gus, but it WAS one-dimensional, 98% of the time.

According to Paul Barber they haven't. I asked him specifically, last February at a Q & A forum with the Supporters club. He said if clubs tried to put in clauses like that, players wouldn't sign. That's why parachute payments were introduced.

Yes that.

I cant see any downside for Bridders.

He will be on MOTD every week.
He will probably QUADRUPLE his wages
He gets at least 3/4 mts Prem Football
If they go down realistically they will be faves to go back up AND he will still be on MEGA money.

Yep all of that can't believe anyone seriously thinks this is a bad move for bridcutt take you Albion coloured specs of and see it as a job/career move he is not a supporter of the Albion!

Assuming the deal for Liam does go through, how would you feel if there was a Sunderland player heading south as part of the deal?

And if there was is there anyone at Sunderland you wouldn't mind seeing in an Albion shirt?

This is just a "what if" scenario!

True, but if I already earned £5 - 10 k a week, I'd happily stay in Brighton rather than living in the north east for any increase (even £100k a week).

Really? Granted Brighton is nice but some of the northeast coast is fantastic. I can't beleive you wouldn't move out of Sussex for 100k a week!

You could then get a career ending injury next month which would finish you off, and have nothing. Most players cite the reason for high wages is because it is such a short career and they need to make as much money as possible. Get higher wages and invest wisely (accepting that a lot of players don't) and you're set for life. You have options whether to remain in the game as a coach, scout or whatever.

Of course this won't happen but fun suggestion. I'll hypothetically got for Karlsson, he sounds like a good prospect with a good pedigree. Or maybe Mavrias. Either way I'd be looking for wingers.

There's nothing stopping them working after they retire from playing football though!! Most of them have been through school so even if they don't land a cushty media job, they could go out and get a wage the same as any of us.

Short career is just an excuse rolled out by those who are greedy.

If by 'quicker' you mean, more long ball, then I'd agree.

In both instances (under Gus and Oscar), they take the approach of passing it around in an attempt to bring the opponents into a smaller gathering, before pinging the ball to someone in space. However, under Oscar, the ball isn't played through the midfield any quicker than it was under Gus; it is however, got forward earlier by greater use of the 'long ball' or 'long pass'.

Regarding the pace of the game, I presume you missed the Reading game then?

Hmmm .... well the contact that told me ( correctly ) about Revell and the Coca-Cola Kid has just told me the LB deal has been completed - announced by end of the week. Take it or leave it as far as I'm concerned.

Sounds pretty likely IMHO. Any hint of a player coming in to replace?

*What better players? Most of them are lower Premier League - top half Championship at best. Bearing in mind where Sunderland are in the table, he is hardly developing working alongside "better" players?

* Clubs sign players with relegation clauses so that their wages fall upon relegation to the Championship

* It's still Sunderland - where men are men and so are the women!

* the better players i was referring to was the opponents they would be facing. Playing against chelsea etc he'll have his hands full and get more experience playing against the top players
* yes no doubt they'll be a relegation clause but i'm sure that will still be significantly more than we can afford as this is partly what the parachute payments are for
* isn't Bridcutt in a relationship so no need to worry about the state of the women

Thanks for posting, I imagine no fee was mentioned or you would have said! I'm going to cross my fingers for £4m. Now let's PLEASE keep Barnes and PIG.
