I don't see it as an upset at all, the Trafalgar is one of my top four favourite pubs in Brighton, (the other three were in the semi-finals too). I had it down as a frontrunner from the off.

I think the Craft Beer Co is too off the radar for a lot of people, so I'm not surprised it didn't win. However it's profile has been raised and I expect it, and some of the other defeated pubs to put in a better showing next year. I was in Craft on saturday night and it is a fine pub indeed, so those who have made it there yet should do so.

I'd expect a call to arms in CAMRA next year

Looking forward to seeing some new entrants next year, and I'd like to see The Ranelagh make it past the first round too.

Much of the beauty of this contest has been raising awareness of various pubs.

Whilst the semi finalists were all well known pubs that will have been familiar to most, there have been plenty of pubs in the tournament that didn't have quite the same profile as the Basketmakers or the BoT and these pubs may well come back stronger next year as a result. For instance the Craft Beer Co's strong showing will no doubt encourage those that have yet to sample its delights into giving the place a try and I myself am keen to experience the Mitre, the Foragers and the Montreal having never tried any of them before but hearing good things as a result of this competition.

This year the big guns battled it out but next year we may have some lesser known establishments muscling in a little more as word spreads.

This can only be a good thing

A deserving winner and great to see some lesser known boozers included in the cup run. Over all BoT is my favourite pub in Brighton, some great times in there over the years. As I have moved away from Brighton I don't get there much but always stop in for a pint or 5 when arriving back in town. Great staff and locals who are always up for a chat if I wonder in mid-afternoon.

I remember when we got that heavy snow 4 or 5 years back and all the drinkers were outside helping people get their cars onto the level roads leading off the hill and most of us falling and sliding down to Sing Lee's.

A year or two back there was a thread on here about the best pubs in Brighton (& Hove)
Full of amazing recommendations it was. I noted most of them down and have been using it as a sort of shopping list ever since. :drink:

And this was also the first year I have taken part in the CAMRA Ale Trail. Again, brilliant. I thought I knew my favourite pubs in the city, but I have got a whole new load of favourites now, like the Queen Vic in Rottingdean for Sunday Lunch. Strongly recommended.

Sadly, the competition came too late for the Maytree, which would certainly have won hands down, or have sent someone to "see" NSC.

Did you all get 'sore fingers'?

Delighted by this. Didn't know it used to have a billiards table, wish that was still there.

So do I. It was crammed into a small space, and anyone going to use the "Heads" had to wait for a pause in play, if I remember.

Yes, as evenings wore on, the interruptions to play fair put me off my rhythm. Pity it went.

I think we plan to present the trophy, lunchtime-ish, before the Leicester game. Come along if you want, I'll buy you a pint or something.

As part of the round system?
