We will look at some sort of trophy that can be awarded, and this should probably become an annual event (if anyone remembers or can be arsed).

I think a Spitoon would be an appropriate trophy ?

The last time I went in the Basketmakers, the tipples of choice were cider & blackcurrant or Guinness & cider, with the cider coming out of oak casks. That was in the early 70's though.

thats nothing to do with this world cup according to TLO. we are only dealing in the here and now. no ones interested in discussing what these pubs were like previously.

Ideally it should be small and understated IMO. A bit like the Ashes urn, with its size belying it's meaning.

I have lived in Brighton all my life but not heard of either of these pubs (I'm not a drinker)
Where are they both?

Trafalgar is in Guildford Road (turn right outside brighton station, up the hill).
Basketmakers at the bottom of Gloucester Road in North Laine, opposite the Eagle.

The Battle of Trafalgar has a Crystal Palace fan working behind the bar.

Yes they do, and you know what? She's a really a nice person if bothered to talk to her!

I for one (and all the Albion supporting friends who frequent the BoT) have the utmost
respect for her, she supports the team from the area that she was born and grew up in.
How many Brightonians do you know that support Arsenal or Chelsea?

Your comment is both pathetic and childish about someone you patently dont't know!

Absolutely right there, she's a gem despite her allegiance to the arse.

Whoosh!

I do know her to talk to - not as well as you, of course - you ever-so-slightly sensitive soul, and you're right - she is a lovely person.

It was a light-hearted ruse to get people to vote for the Basketmakers - which evidently failed. If I'd have said that to her, she'd have laughed it off, which is more than you did.

I think your ruse blew up in your face and galvanised the BoT regulars to get off their collective arses and vote.

Now then, I'm off to sort out the trophy which Bozza has kindly agreed to fund. Any suggestions on design anyone?

See post #108.

I hope this becomes an annual event as I feel this was an 'upset.' A bit like when Greece won the Euros. The craft beer troops will be mobilised and ready next year and Craft Beer Co will be righfully installed as the number 1 pub in Brighton.

Only if they can climb out of their own backsides to vote.

I don't see it as an upset at all, the Trafalgar is one of my top four favourite pubs in Brighton, (the other three were in the semi-finals too). I had it down as a frontrunner from the off.

I think the Craft Beer Co is too off the radar for a lot of people, so I'm not surprised it didn't win. However it's profile has been raised and I expect it, and some of the other defeated pubs to put in a better showing next year. I was in Craft on saturday night and it is a fine pub indeed, so those who have made it there yet should do so.
