Cameron acknowledged that, while the EU budget as a whole would be reduced, Britain’s own contributions to the EU would increase.

What a clown.

Suits his party's overall agenda of providing arguments for the UK to leave?

This was due to an agreement made by Tony Blair. Don't let the facts get in the way of political bias.

According to Cameron.

:fishing:

This will be a zzzzzzzz thread of entrenched views.

Anti Tory whinging from the 50% who think of Brown, Balls, and Moribund as having left a first class UK economy.

Anti Europe rhetoric from the other 50%.

Thank christ for weekend sport.

a clown? is someone bitter because predictions of failure and marginalisation in EU post-referedum promise, have turned out to be crap? great victory for the UK. shows we aren't alone in wanting reform in Europe, i wouldnt be surprised if the renegotiation is more successful than hoped, with other countries have a piece of the action too.

Is this is far as the renegotiation goes then? because I thought the plan was to renegotiate on a number of issues not just on the amount of money we pay.
We need far more reform than this.

According to virtually everybody. No getting away from what a disastrous negotiation Blair had and the legacy it's left. I think Cameron is a total cockwomble but so it has to be said was Blair. Nasty little war criminal and deluded religious nut job.

I agree here, Blair was a nasty little war criminal and deluded religious nut job. Most of all he is a hypocrite. He has sent this country down a path without no get out clause. But its OK for him, his living standards are not being crushed. He is making millions.

no, this was regular budget planning, for 2014-2020. the EU had originally want an increase of around 10%, which we, Germany, Holland and a few others thought was a bit rich when we are cutting budgets at home. France thinks we can just carry on spending. we won and got a cut in the budget.

No. It's his spinning of the deal which annoys me. The EU budget has been reduced but not enough to make UK contributions reduce. How's that a victory? It's a bit like Merkel wanting 20k for her second hand Merc, asking for 25 and Dave "successfully" negotiating her down to 20 ie Merkel gets what she wants, Dave things he has got a good deal.

The discussion on repatriation of powers is sometime in the near future.

be interested to see where you've found that the budgets been cut but our contributions rise. i can only find a reference to "EU officials calculation" that implies the net benefits drop, not the actual contribution (of course they will if the budgets gone down).

I am not disputing the legacy Blair left. But, these were the parameters which Cameron knew about, and failed to fully remove himself from. Had he negotiated a bigger cut he would have.

OK. In the near future? In politics that means they will leave it for the next party to sort out lol. If Labour are in power by then, they will not do a single thing about it because they love Europe. I'm right in voting for UKIP as my protest vote, even though it will help Labour get back in. We have no proper choices left, and nobody we can trust to do the right things in the interests of the people of this country. Who we can trust?

You really can thank Blair for the fact that we end up paying more because he negotiated away our rebate.

I can't see how you can view the result of a lower budget as a failure - it's the first time EVER the EU budget has gone down.

You complain about this result and that fact we'll end up paying more yet on any anti EU thread you claim complete and utter support for our membership. So what you want is an al carte EU membership for the UK ?

Not sure exactly but I am guessing it will have to be before the election as his in/out vote is based on these new terms.

Not complaining , merely pointing out Dave's hollow victory.

Besides I want the UK to fully leave the EU.
