At the supermarket I used to work at on London Road, the security guard said it was company policy not to stop someone fourteen or under from stealing...

Out of curiosity, why did you feel the need to tell the security? I know it's breaking the law blah blah but it didn't have nothing to do with you and wouldn't effect you whatsoever? If I saw someone doing it in likes of Waitrose, ASDA, Sainsbury's etc then it wouldn't bother me one jot, different if it was something like your local shop, that's when I'd expect people to say something.

Waitrose won't be losing out a shed load of money will they..

It has something to do with everyone, because the losses shops make through stealing, means prices are increased to cover it.

Exactly the same as everyone paying more can insurance, to cover the expense of drivers with out insurance.

Someone who thinks they can steal from a supermarket and get away with it is probably going to think they can steal from you in the street. Best to nip this behaviour in the bud, in my view.

Interesting, maybe that's why I was never stopped. They obviously knew it was happening and could see who was doing it on the CCTV. I'm surprised I was never pulled up for it, maybe because I was young. It was only sweets after all, not worth their time.

FWIW I've caught more shoplifters than the amount of times I've stolen when I used to work in a certain job. It's pretty fun catching people.

So who do think actually pays for the stolen goods then? The firms have to build it into the their profits, so you pay idiot.

I worked in the loss prevention/security industry in Brighton for years. You are right, the supermarket won't lose out. The staff will. As they see their bonuses disappear year after year and the pay freezes they get on an already crappy wage year after year. Well done. So you are exactly spot on when you wrote "It didn't have nothing to do with you", for once, a correct use of a double negative.

What a ridiculous comment - we all end up paying with price increases etc
