Got a cab(black taxi) on Friday night, didn't have cash so I paid by card, I gave the cab driver the long number on the front, the expiry date and the three digits on the back, checked my balance today and he has taken £260 twice (c@@@), I rang the bank and they have said there is nothing they can do, I need to fill out a visa report form, I then said I need to pay my rent, they told me its not their problem I haven't got clear funds.

I am fuming!!!

Help?
Please

find him and slash his tires. twice.

seriosuly, i assume have some receipt, follow up as if its an error as it might well be. if not refunded then call the police.

if theres no receipt... seriously? you give out your CC details to random strangers?

If it should have been £260 it's a double charge. If it was a credit card it would instantly be credited back as a duplicate charge and the merchant charged back. The bank should credit you really. The best option you have is the bank or the taxi company. It's a common mistake when chip and pin isn't used.

If it was not meant to be £260, the you should have the receipt to show the correct value and again a credit card would have rights to chargeback. I keep quoting credit cards as I used to work at Amex.

This is exactly the reason I hate using my debit card and keep all my money in a savings account I can instantly transfer.

How do you know its the cabbie that took it - did he take the fare too?

Well, the fair was £150!, that hasn't been taken but at the same time I got the cab, £260 has been taken twice, just guessing to be honest.

Visa debit card

A Visa debit card offers significantly better protection for shoppers. Their scheme is called Visa Debit Chargeback and any bank that issues a Visa debit card has to comply with the scheme.

You can claim money back if the goods you buy are damaged, or the product or services are not delivered.

There is no limit on what you can claim. But you have to claim within 120 days of the date you expected the goods to be delivered or the firm going bust.

Claim it back - you never received the service

doesn't help him pay his rent. He'll get it back, just won't be in the next few days.

I had a row with halifax once and they didn't cash a cheque properly. To resolve it I had to speak to a manager who gave me a £1500 interest free overdraft for a month. Worth a shot.
