Lucky boy, just finished Uni and you want a 2/3 bedroom place!

This! Where the hell has your money come from you lucky git!

I had to work for 5 years after college (didn't go uni) to save to buy a place.

P.s. well done for having your head screwed on after coming out of uni. Investing (buying) is the right thing to do!

Thanks for the info. Basically thinking good investment as prices may rise and nice sized properties.
I'm a doctor been qualified for two years but got mammoth debt to pay!

Just good community feel in newhaven, shame there is lack of good pubs /centre. Love the cliffs there

Most places in Sussex are a good investment. I went for haywards heath although its quite expensive. Think this though... 'better to have the worst house on the best street than the best house on the worst street'. (obviously you still want the right sized property for your needs, but you catch the drift.)

I had heard there was a campaign to reopen the beach, but I'm not what opposition there is from the ferry companies.

There are certainly worse places to live! Granted, the town centre is a dump but sadly most small towns are! Great thing about Newhaven is that you can choose to pop to Brighton or Eastbourne and it is not far to get on the 23 to London!

Coupled with the fact that the train runs straight to Falmer on match days!

Seaford beach is a stones throw away and the South Downs are on the door step! Anywhere else and that would add thousands to your house price!!

They are liable of anybody gets injured from wash off the boats. It's a spending beach and their argument is that it's part of the operational area of the port.

They are also planning to put the jack up barges there if they get the operation and maintenance contract for the wind farm.

People give the port too much of a hard time if Newhaven is ever to be regenerated its going to be through port related development not sticking an asda on the edge of town.

It functioned perfectly safely as a publicly accessible beach for years.

I used to live in Newhaven, my mum still lives in Newhaven, if she didn't I'd never go back there again. I hate the place with a passion, I've been trying to persuade her to move out of that dump for ages so that when she does move away I never have to go to that absolute HOLE again.

I realise that but this is the argument the port are using.

Also they have already been hit with a large fine when somebody died falling off one of the quays and getting crushed by a boat. As such they are being more responsible about what happens on their land.

I used to dock my boat at newhaven harbour as its a lot cheaper than Brighton marina.

I've been looking for a 3 bedroom house, I found a nice house in Hollingbury by Woodbourne Garage and the offers been accepted, other affordable area's I was looking at were Patcham and lower Hollingdean.

There were alot in Bevendean, Whitehalk, Moulsecoomb, Poertslade and Southwick

I personally, would'nt want to live in Newhaven.

Hi All

I am a Brighton boy who is moving back to sussex to work after going away to uni. I am a first time buyer looking for a 2/3 bedroom house. Obviously I cannot afford Brighton/Hove.

I have always had a soft spot for newhaven, used to fish on the arm. Real cmmunity real in the town. Ive heard people say they think it is a town on the up.

What are NSC's thoughts?
Go West in my opinion. Portslade / Southwick / Shoreham. Similar prices and much easier to get about. Newhaven has been spoilt by the one way system. The town centre is like a ghost town. The plans for the future look great if ever they materialise.

No one has mentioned the five best things in Newhaven!

A259 East, A259 West, A26 North, Train heading to Lewes and the ferry going South!
