What's it usually like for spectators watching near the finish at the Brighton marathon? I imagine it to be packed. Where is the best place for people to watch on from near the end?

Went on my last proper run before next week, 10 miler at 30 secs a mile faster than marathon pace of 9.

Am looking for a bit of advice as to how to approach next week. Although it's unlikely, I am aiming to beat the 4 hour mark so set a pace of 9 miles/min. Was thinking though I should go slightly quicker for the first half to allow for the inevitable slow down in the final 6 miles or so....

Is this the best approach? If so, what sort of speed should I be looking at going? Or is that going to tire me even more?

I'm planning on the same. I have decided to go for 9 minute miles throughout. 4 hours is about 9:10m per mile so it still allows for a little slow down later which I guess is inevitable.

The crowd is fantastic. It's my 3rd this year. 4hrs 55mins in my first and 4hrs 32mins last year.

I'm not going to do 4hrs, am I?

10 miles at my Marathon pace again today (9.30) so that's it now except for a few small runs between now and Sunday. Lets hope for some decent cool (not wet/windy) weather and big crowds to help us round!:banana::banana:

Any last minute sponsors welcome - see below!

Don't go off too quickly......is the best advice, but is the most difficult thing to actually do. The excitment of the day will make it difficult to do. If you do go off too quick.....quicker than your race plan, you will pay for it......eventually, and then it's hard work.

If you can run a consistent pace for every mile to achieve your goal, that's great. If you can run a faster 2nd half, it doesn't have to be much, thats the ideal......so they say. But then this is only my 3rd go at a marathon.

I'm planning to follow a pacemaker - saves checking my watch all the time!

Church Road/First Avenue is a good spot because you get the runners in both directions. Similarly too for Hove lagoon where you get the 19.5 mile runners heading out to the power station and can then cross over to the prom for the 23 mile runners heading for the finish by the fishing club.

Ibruprofen, Paracetamol & Nurofen does anyone take any of these prior or during a race? I've heard mixed messages about this, anyone out there can advise me a little more?

My knee tends to get fairly painful around 6/10 miles and wonder if a painkiller would help me get through the race relatively pain free.

Have just had a pre marathon leg message from Paul at Corals. Don't want to overdo it so have convinced my wife I need to sit on the sofa watching the footy all day, with a possible trip to the blue Lagoon for 3pm...Hydration is going well with a few ciders and nice bottle of Chardonnay.
