I mean the death and resurrection really.

He no doubt existed. Was probably the equivalent of a modern day terrorist.

In fact, he is still delivering terror today.

How much happier would this world be if religion did not exist.

How much of the national debt could be repaid if every church was sold to a developer.

How many kids would not have been abused by clergy

How much money would hard pressed couples save by not marrying at a church

How many of us would be more intelligent by not wasting our school time learning about this crackpot

How many of us would have not wasted a Saturday evening by spending it in some church hall, 50 miles from home for some relative we hardly know

I'm sure many more can be added!

Exactly. However, whether his mum was a virgin or a naughty slag, is still (bizarrely) debated.

There is historical evidence that Jesus the man did exist, whether or not he was the son of God is the dispute. I do believe Jesus rose from the dead. What I can't believe is the the day Jesus was killed in such a horrific way is called 'Good' Friday. Sound's like a pretty bad day to me.

Genuinely surprised at the poll results at the time I'm posting this (9 Yes, 2 Maybe, 3 No), given that it's 10.15 on Easter Sunday. Shouldn't you all be in church if you believe in the resurrection?

Not really sure how religion can be blamed for that, God or the holy book did not tell them to go and abuse children, im sure they probably would still have done it if they where that way inclined.

'Religion' may not be able to, but 'The Church' can, if solely because of the way it protected the guilty priests from prosecution, merely moving them on to the next place to start all over again. Any other institution would, I like to think, have booted them out instantly. And without religion, there would be no church......

People are to blame for their own acts. A religion gives guidance and helps people find a few answers in their own lives. All the atrocities that have happened in the name of religion re committed by people who are trying to justify their own misdeeds and desires. Religion has also been the base of basic laws such as not killing each other, etc. Hard to say nothing good has come from religion. If you look at many of the bigger religions and boil their ideals down to one general statement about life, you will appease many different gods by living the best life for yourself and for others.
Too many things can be seen as a bane of society if you only focus on the ways it can be used negatively.

Sure he existed, but the religion...no... Pretty sure that if you taught people from birth that Rupert the Bear was god, people would grow up believing it. I can think of plenty of things that religion is responsible for and theres not many good things. What is the major thing that religion has given us that is a good thing?

I think you are taking two different people named Mary and putting them together.
How so? Jesus's mother, Mary, was the virgin Mary. The Holy Spirit (stud) came upon (in) her?
