The guy is an offensive idiot who got drunk and behaved in a totally unacceptable manner but 56 days jail, massive over reaction. Does the guy have a previous record, is he a member of any right-wing organisations or is his whole life going to be tainted by one incident? The number of stories you read where people are let off for sexual assault, burglary and other crimes are to numerous to mention and it seems that the authorities have just taken the opportunity to demonstrate how 'right on' they are. I am so happy that Muamba is making a recovery and the reaction all over the world from football fans irrespective of allegiance has been heartening and it is a shame that most of the focus has been on this unfortunate bellend.

It is harsh, but I have little sympathy really. It's about time people realised that you're subject to the same laws offline and as you are online. Everyone knows you can't go down the high street and stand on a sopabox espousing the type of offensive and racist views this numpty has, so why think it acceptable to PUBLISH it online to a wider audience.

I can't understand how people get upset about positive thoughts, prayers, claps, chants. It seemed to have done something as the doctors described his recovery as a miracle. If you think its over the top then done join in but dont condemn people for their positivity. Its hardly a crime is it.

Look if you want to do it that's fine, and yes I will join in to a point, but I think there does need to be some perspective.

I am genuinely glad Muamba is on the mend and it is shocking seeing such a seemingly healthy athlete collapse on such a public arena.

But beyond wishing him a speedy recovery, you must acknowledge that for many it is nothing more than a distant incident.

Most have experienced far closer personal tragedies and grief that is bound to be more poignant.

Again I cannot accept your near religious connotation about his recovery, thankfully he had immediate access to the best medical and scientific lead treatment.

So if you want to applause, fall silent or leave tributes then do, but it doesn't make you any more compassionate than us that don't.

Am i right in thinking he didnt say anything racist ABOUT muamba, but was racist to any black member of public who then responded to his original comments?

I'm not defending him. He HAS to go to jail for those secondary comments. I just find it odd how the papers made it sound like he made racist comments about Muamba*
