Which way will it rotate? Clockwise or anticlockwise?

It is noted that this amazing contraption which is available at various points around the country will bring thousands of visitors to this town, I cant see it myself, fortunately.

i can't really see people going "let's go to brighton, they've got a wheel!"

it'll more be something to do if you're already here.......however i don't agree with critics saying that it makes the seafront generic......basically everything surrounding it can be found at any other seaside town

I like it. Not sure how good the view will be with Marine Parade being so much higher than Madeira Drive but I think it looks good. It`s not something you`d come to Brighton for specifically but it`s an added extra and something else to keep the kids amused.I wouldn`t go to Portsmouth just to go up the Spinnaker Tower but the kids enjoyed it when we went there to see HMS Victory etc.

Serves them right for living in in an overpriced block of flats that resembles a multi-storey carpark.

I hope it isn't there for long. Why can't we just be Brighton? Not bloody 'London by the sea'.
I wouldn't have minded if they'd copied the London Eye, which is great architecture, but this is just a standard ferris wheel and nothing special.

I read somewhere that it will be there until 2016.

Yes, temporary period of 5 years. I'd be furious if I was subjected to that in front of my flat/house.

A Stiles, Harold, Williams project. The same company that were looking to disrupt Falmer and promote Toad Hole Valley (with other developments) to make some cash, no?

I do well remember that Sputnik. It was looking a bit faded towards the end, but be nice if it was still there - now retro!

Here, there and everywhere
Is this the same thing that turns up in Nottingham, Derby and every other city up and down the country?

They had one in York as well

Maybe they are just recycling them around the country. Re-inventing the wheel, as it were.

The wheel looked obscenely fruity when we were down on the front earlier today. Marine Parade full of Royal Enfield Bullets, Harleys and hogs of all descriptions. Never has so much leather been on show since Freddie Mercury's (RIP) last birthday bash.

Good god, yes. I may well be one of the first.

And let's get this right, bearing in mind I have not read the full thread, the Van Allen Building was once a petrol station. So is this progress?

Why didn't they put it at Black Rock? I'd be well hacked off if I lived on that part of the seafront.
