By one goal. Very good. You guys nearly pulled off the famous Palace second half self destruction but scraped home

Possession:

Palace 46% Wigan 54%

11 shots each

Palace 8 corners Wigan 10

Statistics don't win matches,Palace played rather well against a somewhat lacklustre Wigan side and really should have had a four or five goal lead by half time.
Yes,Murray was outstanding.

Murray offers more than just goals. Hold up play, aerial ablity, great at defending set plays etc

Indeed he does.

But he still wouldn't get in our team at the moment.

As i say, i beg to differ. I honestly wouldn't swap Murray or Scannell on present form for any of your strikers.

Yes he'll score against us on 27th, yes he has the ability to be a good chamionship striker on his day, yes he does seem to have the ability to motivate himself for the certain games and yes Gus did get the best out of him last season and I'm sure Freedman will get good performances out of him for a number of times this season.

However - I can honestly say I prefer having CMS in the team. I know he cost us money and arguably Murray was a free. I know we're probably paying CMS what Murray wanted BUT I think he was a cracking bit of business and the signing of him has given more of a statement out to the football world than persuading Glenn to sign for 2 more years ever could have done.

this !

He did the same for us last season. He was the focal point of the strike force and the first part of our defence. There are plenty of history revisionists on NSC who will say different, and that there were attitude issues, but these have not been borne out in his goals to games ratio over his career at the Albion. He was probably the third best striker in L1 last season, CMS is better for all round effort, Lambert has everything apart from pace.

At the start of the season I would have said that Murray and CMS would be a perfect pair of strikers for this division.

I have to admit however that Barnes has impressed, he is playing a withdrawn role, and we are often 4-1-4-1, rather than 4-4-2.

As a free transfer he is a great capture for Palace, anyone claiming different is living in La-La land.

Agree unfortunately - but the key here is more about the style that we are playing, which is not suited to Murray's talents... we have clearly set ourselves up with very quick forwards who can interchange their positions at any given time, be they wingers who can play up front, or strikers who can play wide... Murray just isnt that flexible, and therefore was surplus to requirements for us... that said, if them up the road play to his strengths and he stays fit then he will do very well.

I think this is the key issue. We all thought Gus was mad getting rid of Nicky Forster, but we were proved wrong.

I would rather than Murray had signed for any other club than Palace, but thats because I think he is a good striker, in his prime, and can do a job for them. If he was truly shit then we would have been delighted had he gone there.

Give it another 15 games and lets see where you are. You have had easier games than us as well.

Palace opposition league positions: 11th, 20th, 19th, 9th, 7th, 13th = Average 13th

Brighton opposition league positions: 24th, 14th, 6th, 7th, 11th, 22nd = Average 14th

Wow we've had it so easy.

Good player. Rated him first time I saw him and I haven't seen him have a bad game, although a lot of other people have. Was never going to be a hero at Brighton but will be at Palace so its a great move for him. Fair play to the guy and his donation to the REMF and comment summed up that he doesn't want hard feelings.

His presence on the 27th will make that game even tastier than it is already shaping up to be. Palace have surprised me this season, they're playing well and will surely be our biggest test so far (at least at home). The atmosphere from both sides will be awesome. I have no idea how the game will go but cannot wait!

Good post. I still think we'll beat you, though.

I bumped into an old mate on the train from Brighton to Falmer before the Peterborough game who knows him well, says Murray told him he was gutted when he left us for Palace, be interesting to hear what Palace fans think of that :lolol:

Do you really, honestly, 100% hand on heart think you'll beat us at the Amex? Serious question.

Until recently I was 90% sure we'd beat you on the 27th, but you're playing well at the moment and it isn't going to be as easy as I thought it was. I still think we'll win though.

Whatever happens it is shaping up nicely, both teams are up the top, both are playing well, both have beaten Premiership opposition in the cup, we have a perfect pantomime villain (shame you don't really, it's the only thing it's missing), it is going to be one hell of a night.
