This is not the footage I saw recently but you can see the bananas on the pitch. Having said that, on the one I saw recently there were at least 6-8 and they were thrown at him as he walked off. Maybe there is a cut in the filming here, I don't know. That said, I remember the bananas anyway, so one of us has it wrong!

A banana was definatly thrown .I was standing on the South West terrace and it seemed to come from the seats in the West stand just above the North West terrace. I thought it odd considering the occasion that somebody had one ready , so I can only assume they brought it in to eat. It was thrown as Moore and Baird came together after the tackle and before they were both sent off. It bounces on the grass just below Moore's thigh. It is included in that piece of footage that was posted on here re the last game a couple of weeks ago.

Unfortunately I can vouch that they were indeed thrown. One or two from somewhere just in front of me on the North side of the sealed off area by the tunnel. They were aimed towards another coloured defender, who was involved in the general 'discussion' that was going on, again on the north side of where the 2 combatants were with the ref. He just ignored them.
We have a lot to thank the Donny players for that day !

Good man, whatever the interpretation it was very much an isolated incident anyway.

This is correct, I was on the north west terrace close as you could be to the tunnel. I always thought it was from the back of the terrace near the west stand, but they could of could have come from the seats. There was no fight that i can recall but when it happened it did shock everyone and there was some abuse thrown at the direction of the thrower. Not seen anything like that since the seventies it did take the gloss off the day for a while.

It was intimidating to start with, but I never thought that the players flag was a cynical, Richardscum ploy. I was pleased with it though, because it helped calm things down.
As for the bananas thing... you have to remember that attitudes to racism were different back then. It would be totally unacceptable now, and quite right too.

Unfortunately Diar, it was. If you watch the video that someone has posted of the game on this thread you can clearly see scumbag Weaver pulling the strings from the touchline and Richardson was sat on the bench that day too.

I had a replica shirt from that season and was trying to find it at the weekend with a view to wearing it this weekend. I thought it'd probably be too small, but after 40 minutes of searching I remembered that I burnt it as it had Richardsons company sponsoring it. :)

No, this was only 14 years ago. It was totally unacceptable then, too.
This. Worst I saw for racism was at Deepdale. Bless the backward fools.

35 years of following bha, never ever heard any racial abuse,or do i know of anyone of doing so,home or away
I'm afraid you must have had rose-tinted earoles in those early years. It is a very sad and shameful fact that when black players first started to appear more widely in the game, during the late 70s, but were still something of a rare sight, monkey noises from the terraces were commonplace. The North stand was not imune from this.

I was going to post something similar. We used to stand to the left of the goal on the North about half way up and it was quite common during the early eighties. I wouldn't go as far to say rife but it was certainly there.
