Was at Turnberry all week in 1986. Thoroughly enjoyed myself. Practice days are best for watching - I can safely say I saw the winner (Greg Norman) play precisely 3 shots all week!!
Been for day trips to Sandwich before as well to watch.
If you are going to watch to see how well they hit it, go on the practice range rather. It is very difficult to see otherwise unless you are going to sit in one spot all day.

I went to the last day, of the tournament at London Golf club last year, i was burnt to a crisp that day, got Sun stroke, but was brilliant Monty was a miserable bastard mind.

Managed to get in the Grandstand on 18th, and have a photo of me somewhere standing on the first tee.

i've been to the open many, many times - first one at st andrews (where i grew up), in 1984. never been to st. georges before though. still undecided if i'm going friday or sunday. if my dad's coming down, he likes to go on the sunday. if not, will prob go friday - less crowds and can watch the final day on telly.

Me and 3 mates are going on the friday. Our plan is to follow a group round the course in the morning, have some lunch and a couple of bevvies, then sit in the 18th, 17th or 16th granstand to watch the rest of the groups come through.

anyone know if there is a dress code tomorrow
No dress code. Take a lot of money for the merchandise pavilion though.

Practice days are great. My advice is to walk round the course from the 18th green and walk back around the course as then you get to see all the groups on the course.
