First Game at Amex

Everyone stands up, sings Good Old Sussex by the Sea in entirety, claps, game starts. 1m into game, ALBIYERN ALBIYERN, ALBIYERN starts up, ends and the stadium dips into silence for the remainder of the game, unless we score or the referee gives a decision against.

Anyone else concerned that Withdean despondency will follow us to Amex? Like Ernest I've been having bad dreams.

I hope if Good old Sussex by the sea is sung people get the words right....irritating that people sing 'and were going up TO win the cup' THAT DOES NOT MAKE BLOODY SENSE

I have no such concerns. I think the atmosphere is going to be consistently brilliant with chants starting from all 4 stands and being responded to or joined in with. It will have to be an extremely depressing game to even partially recreate the Withers experience.

Albiyern

That appalling, morose, mournful, funeral durge - Albiyern, Albiyern so on and so forth should be banned from the mouths of all Brighton supporters, it is the most boring song ever sung by Brighton fans ever.About as inspiring as standing in a cowpat as your throat is cut with a blunt knife. Where has all the imagination gone ? The Liverpool version of this terrible ' song ' has even ruined the Kop atmosphere when heard on TV. Stop it NOW please !! It will darken that beautiful new stadium immediately .

There are two versions of "Albion" the slower "Albion, Albion" (repeat) or the quicker "Albion, Albion, Albion, Albion, Albion, Albion, Albion, Albion, Albion, Albion, Albion" The first one, particularly at away games is always the best song we sing. At certain points it effects the atmosphere and the match. It basically says we are here and are confident if winning this match. It is the type of song you sing when you've just scored or the team needs a lift. Brilliant! If you don't like it, you won't like the Amec cause it will be ringing all the way round the stadium.

Disagree. The faster Albion is is the original and by far the best as it conveys excitement. The slow dirge ranks up there with, "Come on Brighton, Come on Brighton..." as one of the most depressing songs to catch on through the years. Thankfully we haven't heard the latter much for a long time as it's only sung when the team's playing cr*p.

I agree too. The slower version was sung back in the day, but it sounded as shit then, as it does now. The faster version was sung far more frequently, and sounds a lot better. But there used to be a lot more variety in the north stand in the 70's and 80's, but I'm not sure how relevant they would sound today. We need GOSBTS to be sung properly and we probably need a few new songs as discussed in other threads.

Not sure that's true, if you listen to the crowd at the FA Cup Final back in 83 you'll hear them singing slowly.

Was it the old tune sung slower though? I don't really remember the mournful version catching on until the past ten years or so. The big memory of Wembley was 'We Are Brighton".. that seemed the most popular song.

Still, any singing will be good.. but it'd be better if it was upbeat.

At Wembley (and not heard much since) in 1983 the most sung was the strange der-der-der de-de-ddd-de-de-de-da one repeated with fast handclapping. What was that all about?!
I'd like to vote for resurrecting the "Brighton Aces" song, always my favourite when sung away from home.

That is the worst song we sing by a million miles. It's even worse than the Elliot Bennet song. Boring, boring, boring. And it really annoys me that every time a new song starts or someone tries to get something else going, someone immediately starts up that boring alb-iy-ern song again. It's shit.

You're right. That went on for ages... weird one as I think I've only ever heard it a couple of times in the 28 years since!

Pretty sure that's been sung at every game I've ever been to and at least ten times at Rochdale.

Absolutely THIS, I thought it was just me. I think it works ok-ish as it echos around the Withdean but we should leave it there when we leave.

I can't remember the last time I heard the 'fast' Albion being sung, and it was THE Albion chant through my early years of supporting the club.

The 'slow' one then arrived, seemingly mimicking Liverpool.

Although not original, Brighton Aces is also a cracker if people can retain a steady pace.
