Just seen this status going round Facebook:

Hows this for a stat - if Brighton beat Dagenham on Tuesday night they will have accumulated 24 points in one calendar month - the highest total in English football EVER.

I haven't actually checked this though...

To play 8 games in a month would mean a number of postponements earlier in the season, because of a good cup run or a bad winter. What other reasons could there be for having 8 games in a month? We "only" have 7 next month.

This must almost certainly be true. It would be very rare for any team to play more than 8 league games in a month, 8 must be fairly unusual - and to win every one of them must surely be unique.

Bet we go and lose to Dagenham now!

Blimey, it was only a few years ago we hit 25 points (or thereabouts) at Christmas!

Derby only got 11 points all season, in the Prem, 3 years ago.

still wont get a mention on the football league show....if only it had been the SCC instead

Eh? We've been talked about more than any other League 1 club on The Football League show. South Today on the other hand....

I think wins in a month rather than points is a fairer comparison, as has already been mentioned it did used to be only two points for a win. Don't have the time to look at the mo but there must be a website somewhere that has this stat.

So, who are the current record holders? How many point / wins /draws did they get in how many games? I believe I heard that we only need a draw to equal the record.

I asked this Q last week with a funny Norris McWhirter quip.

So Fizzures

and I take a share of the blame if we lose or draw v D&R

Current record is 22 points, isn't it?

As mentioned elsewhere, D&R are unbeaten in March too...

Apparently, it won't be a record, although we probably have jinxed it now.

My statto friend, who works for the Daily Express, says that Rotherham achieved the same feat in February 1982, and Bristol City won eight times in September 1954, though that was in the days of two points for a win. Still amazing, though. It's in paper this morning.

Both of those at 2 points a game, so answer to OP is, we think, yes, a new POINTS record.
