This. Two of the three best teams in the world - what's not to like!

Should be fascinating. None of the Aussie top four in this series got a ton, there's no way that Sehwag, Gambhir, Dravid and Tendulkar won't score at least one between them (and probably several more). England probably have the better bowling attack (although India have a proper spinner) while India have the better batsmen. I'm certainly going to try to get along for at least one day of that lot.

Bit harsh on Katich, he only played two tests - and in one of those he was run out before he faced a ball.

But it's a stark example of how shockingly bad the top order (with the exception of Watson) was.

I see White is captaining the 20/20 team - he was my choice for next test captain too. It'll be interesting to see how he does.

England definitely have the better bowling attack, and Swann is one of the best spinners around. More importantly they act as a unit. Englands batting has been the worry, even last summer. I'm looking forward to seeing whether Australia's bowling is plain awful or England have learnt how to bat. Cooks record breaking series makes me think it's the latter

What a truly magnificent performance by the lads. So many players played well at crucial times, it is no point in picking individuals because all of them (even Colly with his catch of Ponting) produced at some point.

Highlight of the series for me was the first day of the Boxing Day test. I was thinking before the game 1-1, Aussies winning convincingly in the 3rd test and they could win back the Ashes which would have been a travesty, but oh no, after that wonderful day they were gone for Oz and back on the plane to the country where they deserve to be.:clap2:

Are you seriously trying to say that Swann isn't a proper spinner.

The India series will be close as both teams are pretty even on current form. Khan will be their dangerman as he's almost as good as Anderson with the swinging ball, Sharma and Sreetanth are no slouches either. It will be really tough for both sets of batsmen if conditions are like they were last summer.

If anyone is thinking of getting tickets then get in quick, Oval is sold out on Friday and Saturday already. I'm going to Edgbaston for the weekend :drink:

Sorry, that was misleading. I was pointing out that England will now be facing a side with a proper spinner as opposed to trundlers like Doherty, North, Smith and Beer.

I've been very impressed with the way England have fielded during this series, World class throughout with some outstanding catches and stops. Having that confidence in your field must really spur on the bowlers, a few years ago some of the catching opportunites would have gone down but now if the ball leaves the ground you can almost guarantee that a hand will be there to pluck it out of the air.

Smith only made runs when it didn't matter too, including that 50 in the last inings of the series.

Don't agree with that. They wanted to avoid the humiliation of the innings defeat and he dug in a bit - if some more Aussies had shown a bit of his application they might have done a bit better. In Smith and Khawaja, Australia have got a couple of hopes for the future but they really need to find some bowlers.

Hmm, if you think that last 50 mattered then fair enough.

(It didn't though)

Chappers is right, this is fanciful. It didn't matter because there was no pressure. If he failed, so what? They had lost anyway - even forcing England to bat again was incredibly unlikely.

Smith reminds me of the sort of innings Jack Russell used to score for England in the days when the West Indies used to take us apart.
