Sorry?

A defensive midfielder or a holding midfielder. It is often likened to an evolved version of the old-school sweeper.

The responsibilities of defensive midfielders usually include:

Screening the defence by harrying and tackling the opposition teams' attackers and defenders.
Covering the positions of full-backs, midfielders and even centre-backs as they advance into attack. This can be during open play or during set pieces such as free-kicks or corners.
Retaining distribution nearer the defence. As passing square across the defence can be especially risky, the presence of the defensive midfielder just in front of defenders provides a relatively safer option going forward.
Directing the distribution towards the flanks or further up front.
Directing the opposition distribution to the flanks or deeper down their end, where they are less effective. Defensive midfielders are often pulled slightly towards the flank to deal with the threat of wingers cutting infield.

Yes, I understand the role of a holding midfielder but I believe the original post by Steve Foster was not meant literally, just a bit of humour

Dont get me wrong , i love Poyet and everything he has done for the club since he has been here but because he hasnt got players and he has said he will get like 4 players , it all seems abit desperate?

I have Poyet on the back of my shirt so i do love the man :jester:

So you criticise Poyet for not signing anyone (ignoring the multiple signings so far in the summer).

Then he signs someone who is young and hungry to prove he's up to it, and you criticise him for being desperate. Without wishing to sound rude, do you actually have a brain?

On the official site it says he can be employed as a fullback? Might he be able to cover at leftback as well as holding mid? Just a thought.

Because i've seen him play and i dont think hes that good IMO

You're basing that on ONE GAME FFS! In fact not even a whole game because he got sent off - and he made a goal and his team beat ours. Do you think it's possible that Gus might have done slightly more research into him than you?

I think he could turn out to be a decent signing. He's been on trial at a few championship clubs in the summer (including palarse). He was never going to make it at Chelsea, but was well thought of there. The lad has something to prove to get his career on track, so why not do it with us?

Give the guy a chance!

Are you two taking the f***ing piss? If you want to have a stupid argument bout whether one has a brain or whatever, PM eachother so the rest of us can discuss our new signing in a maturer way.
