give capello a chance to manage the next 'generation'

people (marshy especially, who was trying to stick the knife in from day one) that he took over a team that didn't even QUALIFY for the last tournament

it'd be like taking over as manager of portsmouth and being expected to win the premier league in two years

yeah let's replace one of the greatest managers the world has ever seen and replace him with harry f***ing redknapp

So, you have a team of money-obsessed under-performing players whose main concerns seem to be screwing more money out of their clubs and sponsors and best manager to bring them down to earth is Harry Redknapp?

It would like putting Herod in charge of the creche.

could'nt agree more, our so called big stars don't like the fact that they can't dictate the rules so sulk and ultimately put in shit performances, agree with everyone bout likes of gerrard ,lamps et al not playing again they have had last 2 world cups to prove themselves and royally f***ed it up both times and not forgetting their inability to qualify for last euros, lets not forget how mclaren did in his first season as coach in holland (crap manager !!) , its the players that need kicking out not the manager who has won pretty much everywhere he has coached. The very first qualifying game for euros should be the start of new generation i will take youth and enthusiasm over this shower of shit any day. No doubt it won't be long before likes of terry moaning to press how it all capellos fault and none of the players should be blamed.Time to pick players who actually want to play for england and that it means something not those who just pay lip service to it.

It's impossible to tell whether any of the players were really to blame - no team would have won with our tactics yesterday. You can debate whether other elements were partly to blame, but Fab's tactics throughout a tournament he said England would get to the final of were disastrous, his refusal to change them suicidal. He has to go.

Capello:
Seria A Champions (Milan) 92, 93, 94, 96
Supercoppa Italiana (Milan) 92, 93, 94
Champions League (Milan) 94
European Supercup (MIlan) 94

Serie A Champions (Roma) 01
Supercoppa Italiana (Roma) 01

Serie A Champions (Juventus) 06
La Liga Champions (Real Madrid) 97, 07

Yep, clearly the guy is utterly clueless and tactically naive. Thats what done for us.
Get rid.

Got to keep Capello - it was his first major tournament and he will learn from it. Get rid of him and you are back to square one - especially if you go with someone like Rednapp who has no international management experience of any sort. You also cannot say the Capello was not passionate about England's performance - at least not from what I saw!

The old guard of the so called "Golden Generation" are the ones that need to go - especially John Terry, as an international footballer he is too slow and as a person he is a disruptive influence on the dressing room who is more concerned with his own ego than the England football team and that is not acceptable under any circumstances!!

Now, I feel better for having got that off my chest! just need to start ranting about Sepp Blatter..........

"his tactics were wrong"

for a start, how do you know what the tactics were? how do you know that his tactics weren't spot on and the players just didn't play to them properly?

or do you REALLY think he said

"right, upson, when a long ball comes in, you need to firstly let it bounce so that the player your marking can get to it, ok? make sure you don't head it.....and secondly, can you and terry PLEASE play with a massive gap inbetween you so that it's really easy to get through on goal? Right, that's you done, now, gareth, when you get the ball on the edge of the area "yeah i know boss, shoot" no, no, you need to give it away so that the other team can counter attack....yeah? it's really important that you give it away, oh and if you give a player a 10 yard head start, please can you stop running so that he's through on goal? there's a good boy"

i have to totally agree with Easy 10 & Mendoza on this one.

I'm fed up with people saying what a great player GErrard is...He isn't and never has been. A great player is someone like Stuart Pearce who plays for their country and not themselves.

.

I`m not sure we can blame Gerard because he is right footed and is continuely played on the left.

So what if he's a good club manager? It seems tournament football is something quite different to club football. If you look at the successful national sides over many years, they never worry about a managers club experience, they are looking for someone to give the squad that little lift that might make a difference, not tactical excellence. Brazil, Argentina and Germany regularly choose a manager who has been a great player over several WC finals, rather than someone who has won the Champions League etc with a club side.

Quite honestly, most of us here on NSC could have "managed" that squad to get out of that piss easy group and lose to Germany, we would certainly have struggled to do worse than Capello.

He's f***ed up at this tournament big style, but you can't argue with his club record and our qualification. Hopefully he is prepared to learn from his mistakes of the past 2 months, if so then he is probably still the best option we have available. Sacking him now would be a knee jerk reaction and risks another Keegan or McClaren scenario.

Counts for nowt. His tactics cost us. He's too blinkered to see it - he spent most of his post-match interviews moaning about the disallowed goal.

Of course we should keep Fabio. We should lose the players, drop most of em. Terry, Lampard, Rooney, Cole, James etc etc put the under 21's in. What's the worst that will happen? We don't qualify (as under SCS) or we don't perform at the tournament when we do (ALL the other managers). The players say the manager is too soft, not passionate, too strict. No manager is ever good enough for them.

Think it might be the players!

Spain have had decades of under achievement and delusion and have now changed things - England must do the same. If we keep on doing the same thing, the result will always be the same

So, lets look at the last few England English Managers

Graham Taylor
Steve McClaren
Glenn Hoddle
Bobby Robson.

All rip roaring successes.

We then get at the time, the best manager available who had , league titles over europe...Sven Goran Ericsson.......you then get the best manager available, league championships, respected world wide Fabio Capello......they both fail.

I wonder if anyone is getting the pattern?

We are simply NOT GOOD ENOUGH...that is all.

Yes he has a good club record. It would be interesting to look at the club records of the last half a dozen or so WC winning managers, I suspect Capello's club record will be easily the best, but the pressure of club and international football is totally different and maybe different types of manager are required for each situation?

that question was asked of Rooney in a kids programme and without thinking he said Champions League ( and then after his brain cell realised what he had said, he corrected it to "the World Cup obviously)

this was reported by quite a few of the quality boardsheets

I take your point that International management is very different from club management, and perhaps a different approach is needed. Binning Capello now though, after he's just experienced Tournament football for the first time, would just set us all the way back to square one. I'm certain that he will have learned from this experience, and that experience he's now gained will help him fine-tune his methods for Euro 2012, which I certainly hope he is still in charge for.

It just makes me laugh all the tactical genius's on here and in the media who see fit to tell the likes of Capello how shot his tactics were. Never mind the dunderheads on the pitch who concede goals from a goal kick, fail to close the opposition down, totally underperform and show they can't pass for toffee.

We'll be lucky if Capello even wants to continue in the job with that shower. Assuming he does, I'd hope as others have mentioned that he makes wholesale changes and ditches most of the old guard who have proved once again that they're not up to it.

Other countries seem to produce players with International pedigree who have the nouse and intelligence to step up to International management without much experience of managing at club level. Sadly, we are not one of them. Ours just sit in studios and pontificate on how the current incumbant got it all wrong.

Keep him, constantly changing the manager doesn't help, if he does as shit in Euro 2012 then get rid.
