Bring Back Russell! His sacking is a disgrace

And no I am not going to blaspheme and joke. Please read on as this thread is completely football related and orientated.

Slade should not have been sacked and i know it's a bit late in the day for this thread but I am absolutely gutted that Slade has gone and genuinely feel sorry for the bloke and the prospect of Grimsby docks on the horizon.

I feel we have jumped the gun a bit here and sacking any manager at any league club after 15 games in my mind is disgraceful. It's the part of football no fan want's to have to take... and that is losing and the time of the defeats have caused this sacking. Yes we weren't exactly setting league one alight but we were improving and Slade was building for a bright future. Young players have come in and have to be nurtured and we were never going to make it into the championship this season, it was to unrealistic.

We miraculously saved ourselves at the last day of the season so to expect a winning formula to occur after just 15 games is ludicrous. The ball was being played along the floor and albeit a a few hoofs here and there, especially from Adam "the beard" Virgo, are to be expected, even united hoof at times.

Slade DESERVED AT LEAST until Christmas to turn things around, but I exclaim turn what around? He saved this club from Morecambe and Burton Albion and are gratitude should have withstood the poor performances. Some players in turn have let Slade down, especially the defense, but injuries and red cards lead me to the conclusion Slade was not the problem and neither were the coaching staff, it was a case of poor individual errors and bad luck.

And eat Horse manure if you think Slade and some fans lack ambition, which is a point Uncle Speilberg raised the other day to my horror. Every fan would grab the chance to win every game for the next 100 years like a flash and no fan want's us to be "small Brighton", And again pile on the manure if you think Slade lacked ambition. Ambition kept us up and ambition was to then spend money on players, albeit Blooms, but Slade could have gone for the burnt out and dreadful free agents, he has instead bought in promising young talents who will shape a great future for the club and whoever get's the job of being progressively disliked and sacked by the fickle Withdean faithful.

Thanks Russell and I hope one day you prove what a great manager you could have been for this club.

Couldn't have said it better....shorter and more concise perhaps, but not better!

Generally, the players bought by Slade have been a success. Because of that, we are playing much better football than last season under Adams.

Only problem has been that Slade's clear-out was not finished, and the deadwood that remained (El-Abd, Virgo, Elphick, Hawkins, Murray) have deteriorated, costing the club with sendings off and inept performances. Once the January transfer window opened, with Slade bringing in new blood in defence, we'd have been doing fine, I'm sure.

the only deadwood you're talking about that is actually deadwood is hawkins.

the others all could have a part to play for the club.

I disagree. At this moment in time a Hawkins Tunnicliffe central defensive partnership for me would be better than the horror show that is Virgo and Elphick.

The only time I have seen Virgo playing well as a center back since he was resigned was the infamous Man City game. This was because he gave Jo no time and as John Byrne said should happen, "left his legs black and blue".

Both are a shadow of there former selves and Slade cannot be blamed for that. They were good under a similar set up that included White but now they have deteriorated so badly Colin "the hawk" Hawkins seems a better option.

On a positive note:

Now we are getting a new manager, He may well give us another Comedy Hawkins Cameo before he decides the man is truely wasted in football and could be a legend on the entertainment circuit!

??? Hawkins coming on
 Hawkins makes a challenge
 Hawkins gets a red
:lolol: That man is just a genius

I don't agree that Elphick and Murray are deadwood. Elphick is potentially one of our best defenders, had a great seasons the last two years. Murray, when is fully fit and in form can be as lethal in front of goal as Forster has been. We saw his ability when first signed him.

You have to laugh but the guy's confidence must be unbelievably low and it all stemmed from Adams playing him against Scunthorpe when he was quite badly injured, oh and Micky this also cost us lynch and really messed up our season:censored:

Completely agree, I feel he deserves another chance, the guy was immense until he was played when he was unfit, much like Murray.

I understand your sentiment but let's get one thing right - he wasn't sacked after 15 games - he was at the club for 8 months and 31 matches, getting 31 points in the process.

Yes, he will always be remembered fondly for The Great Escape and for being a 'firefighter' but having won that battle, like Churchill in peacetime, his methods and ideas haven't worked.

I may turn out to be wrong but I suspect Slade is unlikely to progress as a manager beyond League 1, and his 15-year managerial record seems to suggest he has more success at smaller clubs with smaller egos. Grimsby is a good fit, so good luck to him there but right now with a big, shiny new stadium, an ambitious chairman and a squad with ability the time is right for a man with pedigree to take over.

Good point but although Bloom was an avid fan last season he was still not chairman and would have been basing his decisions on the going's on of this season, which have now turned out to be a 15 game season.

Slade was given a two year contract and to be 15 games into that contract and get the chop is ridiculous. 30 games is a fair enough reflection but 15 isn't and mid table after 30 games after the great escape last year would have done just fine.

An explanation would be good as to why you believe this and again it won't end in a so called "binfest". I am sick to the back teeth of endless shit on here and would just like to have a debate as that is what this forum is for.

Just because Slade was a nice man and showed his bonce to the goons in H block on demand, doesn't mean he was up to the job.

He worked wonders last season, but he's failed to organise the defence, and hasn't got our midfield, Bennett aside, to do anything at all.

If you gave him until Christmas and he was still making a royal HASH of things then a new man wouldn't be able to address the squad before spending money in January.

As you say, thank him for leaving us with some good recruits - but don't say it's a "disgrace", because spending more money then any albion manager in decades and not getting any improvement out of the team just isn't good enough.

Brighton factually.....
100% Agree. We treated the bloke like shit.

The only people treated like shit were the fans that made the effort to go to Huddersfield and Tranmere, served up pure shit. It did not work and maybe we could have given him more time, However Bloom needs a succesful team for Falmer and Chamionship football and all the results in black & white read SHIT.

I liked the guy and nearly every fan on here did aswell we all wanted it to work as we all support the Albion. Even reading between the lines from virgo & various other bits & bobs the whole show was a joke with no real command or authority.
