Fast forward to Summer 2010. The World Cup starts tomorrow. Our first group game is tricky enough - USA.

EVERYONE is fit and in form.

Who is your first 11?

The midfield is virtually impossible, is it doable to fit Gerrard, Lampard and Joe Cole in a team?

of course not, unless you play one on right (not unthinkable) or go 433 with Gerrard and J Cole supporting a striker. which would be rather flair actually, Barry, Carrick and Lampard in the midfield.... not such a bad proposition. so not really impossible at all, will Cappello be that adventurous? like to see him at least try it in one of the games building up.

Take your 4-3-3 with Barry - Lampard - Gerrard as the midfield three. Then Joe Cole and Lennon supprot Rooney as the lone striker.

Didn't look an awful lot wrong with what we had last night, except fro Rio in for Upson.

I think it will be pretty much what it is now

James
Johnson Terry Ferdinand Cole
Barry Lampard
Lennon Gerrard
Rooney Heskey

The only potential changes I can see are Joe Cole for Lennon (possibly then switching Gerrard to the right?) and if Heskey has a poor season/Carlton Cole a particularly good one then Carlton Cole for Heskey. Capello obviously likes a big man up front to partner Rooney, so I think Defoe will remain a 'super sub'.

edit: for some reason the spaces there haven't come out. Barry and Lampard central and lying a bit deeper in centre mid, with Gerrard on the left and Lennon the right in more attacking positions. I've also just realised that I omitted Walcott, who may usurp Lennon. At the moment, on current form I'd have Lennon though.

If everyone is fit and in form...

James

Johnson Ferdinand Terry Cole

Walcott Hargreaves Lampard Gerrard

Rooney Heskey.

Hargreaves is the defensive midfielder and Gerrard plays on the 'left' in the manner in which Capello has got him playing at the moment.

Joe Hart (will prove himself to be better than Green, Foster and Jimbo this season)
Glen Johnson (Best right back in the world, apart from Sergio Ramos who can also defend)
Ashley Cole (No brainer)
Rio Ferdinand (Another no brainer)
John Terry (Captain magnifique)
Aaron Lennon (ANYONE but Shaun Wright-Phillips)
Stewart Downing (Natural width and I think he's brilliant)
Gareth Barry (Naturally gifted in the centre and gives good balance)
Frank Lampard (The best English midfielder)
Wayne Rooney (Obviously)
Carlton Cole (If we have to have the bulldozer, it HAS to be Cole rather than Heskey, he has more skill. But just as hopeless in front of goal)

I would have Lampard over Gerrard, but I think Gerrard could play in behind Rooney the way he plays for Liverpool, I think that would get the most out of him, but not the best for Rooney nor Lampard. I think in a 4-4-2, Lampard is the best option.

Hahaha. I will take a £20 bet with you now, with my winnings going to the REMF, that Downing does not start our first game at the World Cup. Not a hope in hell. ESPECIALLY not in place of Gerrard.

Oh, and also (less of a nailed on bet) £20 that Hart does not start a single game in the World Cup for England.

Tell you what, I would LOVE it if we were drawn in South Africas group, and took part in the opening game of the tournament against them.

That would be FLAIR.

Yeah, but the saffies would be well up for that game. I'd much prefer to get Bahrain/new zealand. Guaranteed win and virtual qualification for round two.

j cole/walcott/lennon 2 of those 3 putting in balls for rooney/gerrard/lampard, with hargreaves sitting back

bench with attacking options of defoe, cole, crouch, owen, barry, beckham, downing, young, is good enough and plenty to choose from!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA From this point onwards I shall completely ignore ANYTHING you post about football.

Which just leaves girls from Swindon.

For some reason I have an inkling we'll draw Australia, whereby whichever city the game's played in will turn into a giant beer-lake/backpacker ghetto.

But Bahrain or New Zealand would do just fine.

I dont think there was anythng wrong with last nights team!

Weve seen that Rooney can NOT be upfront on his ow as he roams too much and the ONLY way Gerrard and Lampard can play together is with Barry sitting deep.

Id have Walcott in for Lennon though and Rio/Upson swap.
