Hello.

My Creative Zen mp3 player of roughly 2 years broke the other day (won't turn on, won't charge) and I'm now looking for a new iPod/mp3. I am almost positive I want to get the iPod 'Classic' (80GB), but it would be great if someone who has it could say if it's any good? I can't be arsed with having something break on me again.

Cheers.

I have the classic 160gb. Personally I love it, that's after 3 years of an iRiver, which was ok too.

Had a 30gb Ipod for 3 years, went wrong in 1st month but replaced under guarantee and no probs since,

This may well be one of very few positive comments on this thread re Ipods as they are not NSC's favourite mp3 player

I got an Ipod shuffle. No problems with it and it suits me fine as I only like to have 4 or 5 albums on it at a time.

I'm always curious about this. Unless size is an issue (oo, er missus), I like to have all my music available to me, so I can play whatever I fancy at the time. So, on mine I currently have about 350 albums to choose from. I wouldn't want to have to keep swapping stuff out.

Horses for course I spose. I usually buy about 4 albums at a time, stick them on it and then just keep it ticking over for a while on shuffle. Once bored I just repeat.

Fair enough - I tend to buy 4 or 5 at a time too, but I'm always going back to older stuff.

These ipod shuffles. Do they on;ly operate in shuffle mode or something? I don't understand.

No, you can play the albums in order but there is no display to pick and choose the album. If I want a specific album I have to knock it on shuffle find the next song on that album, knock it off shuffle and the skip it back to the first song. Bit of a pain but I usually have it in shuffle anyway.

Well while we're on the subject of iPods....

I've got a new classic 80gb recently - no problems at all other than one tiny little strange one - I can't get it to update the album art. The original transfer all went ok, if I add new albums that art transfers ok, but those that I had to "update" for (ie. actually tell iTunes to download the artwork for) just don't update on the iPod. It's set to sync, and has obviously sync'ed as the new stuff's on there. The new artwork that I downloaded does show on iTunes, just not on the iPod.

Any ideas?

That does sound rather long. I think I'm gonna get an iriver.

I have an 80G ipod and love it. NEVER download updates to it though - I read a good article a while back comparing one that had never been connected to the internet, and one that was updated whenever iTunes told it to. The latter seized up and kept crashing after a year.

I have an ipod classic 80gig and am happy to report no problems so far. Only problem with ipods is that they're so beautiful your world will come to an end if you drop/damage it :thud:

Yes. You have to do it manually. FROM YOUR iPOD, highlight the art-less albums and right-click to bring up the info. Next to the 'album art' section (should be a white picture frame thing for dragging artwork into) click the little tick-box and press OK. This clears the way for simply copying the artwork from the iTunes window, and pasting it onto the window bottom-left when you highlight the art-less albums.

I had this exact problem so hope I've conveyed the solution adequately!

Yes, I know what you mean. Basically I have to do everything I've already done for the custom ones on iTunes, all over again from a different starting menu. Great.

Thanks though. :)
