[News] Brianna Ghey murder.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
I stand to be corrected. The gender of the victim may well have been irrelevant, and just a coincidence.

Not that it matters.

The victim was not random though, and if they had a list then it would have had to be of people known to them.

I made my comment primarily to rebut a suggestion made by someone that it is getting dangerous for us all, out there, especially late at night, owing to random attacks. It isn't.
Nobody knows the actual reasons behind the killing. They were never explained fully in court and perhaps even the perpetrators can't do so bearing in mind they are both seriously disturbed, and with autism traits (not that autism is a reason for killing). However, Brianna's transgenderism was a factor in at least one of them picking her out and becoming "obsessed", although a lot of their reported comments sounded like typical immature children's unpleasantness and bullying attitudes to somebody perceived as different to most other people. We don't know who else was on their list, or why they might have been targeted.

The whole thing is a complete tragedy in that it has destroyed one life completely unnecessarily, and ruined the lives of three families.

The court proceedings as reported by the Liverpool Echo were quite distressing in the details. Possibly like most, I read them due to a sense of morbid curiosity that I am not proud of.

Thanks. Very fair account. I feel I don't need to delve into this any more deeply. Let's hope the various sorts can desist from weaponizing it. RIP.

sunak is a vile piece of work. making anti-trans jibes at PMQs with Brianna’s mother in the gallery. really about as low as it gets

That really disappointed me too. Regardless of political affiliation, that was breathtakingly unnecessary and cruel.

How far the Conservative Party has fallen.

Both parties don't support civil rights for trans people, in Labour's case because they are chasing Sunak's bigoted voters. That's a much bigger story then the Westminster Punch and Judy show involving two elitist nobs

One can only hope (probably in vain) the Starmer's response to Sunak will make him think about the transphobia in the Labour Party

What did he say?

Only last week Labour announced they were in favour of segregating trans patients away from other patients in hospitals, a completely unworkable policy that would cost a fortune given available resources. They are just quieter "respectable" bigots. The only difference between them and the Tories is that they think it's a bit rude to announce their transphobia within 50 yards of Brianna's mother

That was grim. His lack of awareness is quite staggering.

It seems to me that being a dishonest bigot might be worse than being honest about it. Tough moral high ground.
