Increasingly shite teeth... I brush them like I should, maybe even more than that, but 20+ cigarettes a day, 3-4+ cups of coffee, lots of beer... its just starting to take its toll. A few of my older relatives also have quite poor teeth, so there's probably also some genetical side to it. Haven't been to the dentist for about five years except for one emergency extraction but going to have to go soon enough since it feels like things are crumbling in there, but it is going to end up costing more than I can afford.

I have more fingers than whole teeth. Variety of chipped, drilled, broken, missing. My Mother had poor teeth, and my daughter who is almost paranoid about flossing, brushing, regular visits etc has had to have some fillings and root canal. My Wife and my Son are both much more casual, relaxed, about missing a brushing if they have been out on the lash, eat chocolates, put sugar in tea etc. and neither has so much as a single filling, there is definitely either some weak enamel gene, or acidic saliva gene or something going on.
Shane McGowan would be embarrased to have my teeth.

I can only tell you my experience when aged 65 I had lost various teeth over the years and the rest had fillings of some sort. I was driven to do something as I could not chew my food. So as I was quoted £30,000 here to fix the lot I had to look abroad. I found a decent price in India. I had most of the work done there and would have returned but the Pandemic happened so I finished the work in Turkey. I am a very satisfied customer. I have a normal-looking balanced mouth and can chew again. The total cost of a full mouth of crowns, implants, and a couple of bridges pus travel, food, and accommodation. £8000
Been trying to talk myself into this, how did you find the Dentist you used overseas? Any tips in general on choosing one?

I used the dear old internet. My search criteria was, 'cheap implants abroad. I then sorted by price and reviews. Finally, I checked out travel costs and accommodation. This led me to Turkey and India. The shock was how advanced they were. Made dentists here look third world. I would look into Turkey if I were you there are so many choices and another suprise was that the waiting room was full of fellow Brits. Good luck.

On the last couple of days of my South American/Antarctica trip an always troublesome lower double tooth finally gave up the ghost. Bits of tooth and amalgam were everywhere and I was left with a couple of jagged peaks and a gaping hole I could plant seeds in. Back in Spain after 3 uncomfortable days I visited my local dentist more in hope rather than expectations. After all the tooth had had so much drilling and filling over the past 50 years or so I thought it a hopeless case. Dreading the thought of dentures or a permanent blank I entered his surgery where after a quick look said 'no problems, I need a 60 minute period to sort you out'. Well 2 days later I entered cabin 3, invited into the chair that was then lowered so my head was below horizontal. A rather attractive dental nurse then dimmed the lights, positioned her bosom against my head and started using this magic wand (that's all I can think to describe it) tracing over all of my teeth, inside, outside and finally the surface. When she had finished the lights went back up along with the chair and I was able to turn to see a full colour view of my mouth on the computer screen. The dentist then came back in to view the image, they could turn the image always round on the screen. Happy with this they then went to a drawer and removed what looked like a whitish coloured little brick. The dentist offered this to the gaping space and said 'yes'. He then drilled a couple of areas of the shards that remained and then the magic started. This little whitish block was then placed into a machine that was situated at the side of me, it started and there was my tooth being made right in front of me. An incredible machine with all these tiny diamond tipped heads, water spraying all whirring around for the next 15 minutes. Its computerised machine apparently even caters for the 'bite' of the tooth above so the fit is guaranteed. When it was finished he offered it up to my mouth, placed in position and said 'bite'. perfect fit - so then it was into a connecting machine that then proceeded to take the next 10 minutes 'baking' the tooth so the colour was exactly the same as the rest matched with the computer image.

Was I impressed? You bet I was. The total time for the whole procedure was 80 minutes, none of moulds to be taken and sent away with an approximate colour match and waiting a couple of weeks whilst attempting to retain a temporary tooth in position. The total cost? Well x-rays, the above procedure plus a white filling at the same time and a full clean.......320 euros. I did shot a short video of it but know not how to upload it or even if it's possible.

Check out Spanish dentists. Implants around 750e with standards as good as, if not better, than the UK. There are plenty of dentist practises in Southern Spain and non have waiting lists as there is no National Health System for mouth care here. However this keeps costs very reasonable and standards high.
I have a friend who had all her teeth replaced with implants . She’s only 49 but works in the media & she went to a highly recommended dentist in Barcelona. The total cost was just under 30 thousand euros including 2 follow up appts . It looks good & she’s not had any issues I don’t think .

I have a couple of extractions/gaps at the back which I have got by quite easily with/without. I have now been advised I have another tooth which might need extraction in a few years if I’m unlucky. Three is too many gaps; if this goes then I will investigate implants.

I did think about implants a few years ago but was put off by the sheer brutality of it.

I often hear adverts on the radio for TCD Smile in a day full dental implants in one day. I don’t need it but. i looked up as curious. Full top and bottom sets for £15,950. The thought of all those teeth coming out and the implants drilled in one day is mind boggling.

It looks quite ridiculous to be honest, (the teeth are far too even and sparking white), though l believe you can choose from off white, or even cream now?

The same thing applies to dentures l believe.

My dentist told me it takes longer than a day for just one. They put the thing into your jaw and when it’s healed you go back to have the tooth stuck on top.

Well l've reached that stage, where on my recent check up, my dentist informed me, that as condition of my teeth and gums are dereiorating rapidly, l may benefit from having several teeth removed, and having either denttures or implants in their place.

Obviously having some of my gnashers taken out isn't exactly something l am looking forward to, but it's left me wondering . . .

How many of you still have a full set of teeth? and if you have had several removed have you taken the denture or implant option? or l guess simply managed with what you have left.

Incidentally l am 66.
68 and still have all my teeth apart from wisdoms. Mrs Earle has three implants from a place off Lewes Rd. Had them 4 years ago and a complete success dental, appearance and confidence wise.
