Does anyone else follow this group on Facebook?

if you get past the perceived “ hard nuts” there are some brilliant pyrotechnics these European ultras use.

on there this week, the Ajax vs Rangers match inside Ibrox which makes the palace ultras who came to the Amex a few years ago seem like a nursery school outing

PPF a would love this

We love some good pyros over here

Some are really nice and classy but have to admit that if I had kids, I'd probably not bring them to these games. It can get too much and its not exactly unusual that people start throwing around flares and bangers. Also not particularly fun to pay £20-30 for a ticket and then have the game abandoned in the first half because someone thought it was a good idea to throw flares or bangers on some poor linesman or player.

Sorry to sound like a damp squib but I go to a match to watch the football. If I wanted to see fireworks I would go to a f***ing Bonfire Night gig and do my “oohs and aahs” there. 😤
Nothing wrong with that. Some people go to matches to watch the football, others have other motivations such as the atmosphere in the stands, singing for the team for 90 minutes or just have a good time with friends. Nothing wrong with any of those.

Precisely.

I suppose it is how passionate about your team you are, In England we aren’t that enthused as they are around Europe. uk fans tend to sit and watch …and get Involved at times ( like you all did last week seemly)

a mate goes with a group of lads to FC Copenhagen most weeks and one of the reason they go it the atmosphere as well as the football.

Imagine a 1000 Brighton fans walking down the street. 250 singing one tune, 250 singing another, 250 being quiet and 250 checking their watches for home time.
250 singing one tune.
250 singing another.
250 being quiet.
200 checking their watches for home time.
50 NSC members arguing about politics :moo:

I can see why ultras in some countries go f***ing nuts for football due to their stereotypical temperament etc, but I fail to understand how Scandinavian clubs also have insane ultras. Such mild mannered, humble folk stereotypically

Here, I don't think it's that we aren't as passionate about our football as elsewhere. You could argue the opposite considering crowd numbers we have in our lower leagues even as far as some clubs in the 6th/7th tier - far far outnumbering even the likes of Germany where crowd numbers drop off significantly at the bottom of the 2nd tier. Away fan culture is something else here too compared to most countries. (Granted we're a small country but you can't argue we're not passionate when 1500 Plymouth fans in the 3rd tier rock up in Yorkshire on a Tuesday night for example). And range of chants/banter between home and away fans is different here.

What we definitely don't have though is the unity of fan group culture like other countries to create the kind of scenes abroad (as well as strict laws on pyro etc anyway). Just different here - more reactive. When I've been to football abroad I've noticed that, generally, outside of the ultras those in the other areas of the ground are nowhere near as 'into' the football as you'd find here generally around a ground away from the main stand. Not always the case, but certainly more often than not. Just my opinion, anyway.
